Product Description

Rick Holland has watched as his brothers settled into mated bliss, quietly dying inside knowing he will never have the same. Rick has lived for the last ten years with the knowledge his mate doesn't want him. When his brother and Alpha asks him to take a trip, will Rick have the courage to forget his hurt and move on with his life?

Jake Richmond has watched from the sidelines as his mate grew from a surprisingly sexy sixteen year old into a stunningly handsome man. He's done everything within his power to keep that man safe--aware that his mate believes he's not wanted but unable to reveal the truth. Can Jake finally let go of the man he loves or will everything come crashing down when the pair are thrust together in their search for much needed answers?

Huge Holes Makes This Unpalatable. Very Disappointing. 4 Nov 2011

This is a peculiar book. So much is missing. Jake and Patrick are mates, except no one knows but them. Jake's father has threatened to kill Patrick if Jake attempts to mate with him. That's basically it.

The story then continues with so many loose ends and holes that it boggles the mind. For instance,

1. What was the father's problem? Why did he behave like that? Was he gay, too, since the author said he had married a person not his mate and the mother left.

2. Why was the father insane at the end?

3. Why as Jake more afraid of his father as 3rd than of his alpha, Rick's father, for several of those years. Given wolf hierarchy, this is unfathomable.

4. Why is he more afraid of his father than he is of his alpha, Alex, Rick's brother?

5. Why didn't he consult anyone, including his best friend about this issue? The father did not say do not consult anyone about my threatening to kill your mate or I'll kill you.

6. If Jake was so concerned about Rick's safety, why did he go back to university for 6 whole months without telling anyone of the risks, especially since his father could have killed Rick while he was gone.

7. How was Jake supposed to be protecting Rick when he was never around Rick? And Jack claimed to be building muscle for 10 years so he could defeat his father? Puhleez.

8. Why didn't he inform the alpha of the risk to his son so the alpha could take steps to protect Rick?

9. Why didn't he inform the alpha that there was a serious homophobe in the clan, especially after Alex became Alpha?

10. How did the father find out about the mating before it was announced? He calls Jake with a threatening message, but how did he find out?

Overall, the book was really frustrating with so many holes. Even worse, Patrick immediately falls over and rushes to Jake after 10 years of abuse. Given the abuse all the other mates suffered, Jake should have done more and the family really should have beat him to a pulp for what he did to Rick, to friendships and to the clan.

Disappointing.

really good read 15 Oct 2011

Given that there are four Holland brothers and this is the fourth book one can only assume that this is the final in the series. As such is does provide a wonderful wrap of all the brothers but more importantly finally tells the story of Jake and Rick. Those of you who have been waiting (like me) for their story to be told won't be disappointed. Slightly longer than the previous books it is a really good read.
Best out of the series, IMO 15 May 2012

My favorite out of the series because I liked the whole rejecting aspect of the story.

I liked the angst that was caused because of Jake and Rick's ten year separation. The fact they are forced into being in close quarters for almost a week created some tension I desperately needed. But I loved the way Rick and Jake acted and how Liam had a part in it all.

Of course, this story isn't without its faults. The reason Jake rejected Rick was a little ridiculous and the conflict associated with Jake's father was one of those what the f*** moments. It was just... stupid.

Still, I really enjoyed this one. I liked how it involved more of understanding the mpreg portion of the series. I was sad Rick didn't get pregnant. I really want him to get pregnant damnit! He'd be so cute. ^_^

I'd recommend this series, though, because they are addicting even if they aren't exactly extraordinary.

as easy as he wished. Deciding to tell him some of the truth Jake looked his mate in the eyes. "You're my mate, and if I couldn't have you then I wanted your name on my body so you would always be close to me." "e;
