Some records sneak into your minds, listening after listening. Others grab you straight away and won't let go of you. Valerie Etienne's debut album did just that to me! I'd known her from Galliano fame and when I came across that CD 4 years ago, I assumed her solo effort might be worth trying... I wasn't disappointed. This is an absolute gem, with perfect balance between voice and music, great production (no, it's not over-produced, as so many records tend to be these days), and Valerie shows that she has a true identity outside from the Galliano band.
Proof that this CD is such a great find is the fact that I lent it to someone a couple of years ago and never got it back... Now that I consider purchasing it once again, this Japanese edition with one bonus track would be just perfect... were it not for the price! Who would be willing to pay an extra $30 for just one bonus track? I know I wouldn't, but if you can afford it, go ahead, the girl is worth every single cent of it!
