Product Description

1912 in The Yorkshire Dales and Alice Bentham and her brother Will have lost their mother to cancer. Money is scarce and pride doesn’t pay the doctor or put food on the table.

Alice gets work at Whernside Manor looking after Lord Frankland’s fragile sister Miss Nancy. Meanwhile Will and his best-friend Jack begin working for the Lord of the Manor at the marble mill. But their purpose there is not an entirely honest one.

For a while everything runs smoothly, but corruption, attempted murder and mis-placed love are just waiting in the wings. Nothing is as it seems and before they know it, Alice and Will’s lives are entwined with that of the Frankland’s and nothing will ever be the same again.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Debut Novel 4 Dec 2012
By Minskip
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Absorbed from the opening pages, I settled down to read For the Sake of Her Family with ever increasing enjoyment. Not for this author a milksop heroine, but one with ambition and a determination to have for herself the finer things of life. The reader accompanies her on her journey of self-discovery, sometimes shocked at the mistakes she makes and then full of admiration at her courage. The characterisation of all of the characters is excellent, and I found it a joy to read this new author's beautiful and evocative descriptions of the Yorkshire dales. A well-written saga and highly recommended.

Ok read. Not really ' my -cup of tea'
Ending rather fast after all that had gone on. Not overly impressed. But I read it and whiled away a few hours. Didn't exactly grip me. But there you go!
