Product Description

Approximately 3 years ago magic happened.

Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske (both formerly of Hamburg’s Metal starship HELLOWEEN) joined forces again after being apart for nearly 23 years. As everybody knows Hansen left Helloween already in ‘89 and Kiske in ‘93. Kai went on to form his own outfit GammaRay and Michael enjoyed success on his own and released several solo albums and sang on various projects. But the two never lost touch and Michael appeared on various Gamma Ray albums. But the magic question remained - will the two ever play together in a proper band again? When nobody was really expecting for this to happen, the answer showed up:

UNISONIC.

Together with Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69), Kosta Zafiriou (ex Pink Cream 69) and Mandy Meyer (known for his work with Asia, Gotthard and Krokus) they formed a strong and exceptional supergroup. Their debut album simply titled Unisonic was released in spring of 2012 due to phenomenal success and superior critics.

Since then they toured in almost all parts of the world before regrouping themselves near Karlsruhe (Dennis’ and Kosta’s hometown and the location of their studio) to start working on songs for the follow up album and an EP that will precede the second full album.

Unisonic's new EP is a perfect appetizer for their sophomore album and includes enough exclusive material. With the exception of the self titled song, the remaining 5 tracks can only be found on this EP.

"For The Kingdom" is a thumping melodic power metal song and a very successful future album track. Fast double bass drumming, an epic chorus, some exquisite alternating guitar solos and Michael Kiske's crystal clear and powerful vocals round off this triumphant number. This is the song that many fans were expecting to hear on the band's debut album and it is finally here.

"You Come Undone" is a catchy melodic hard rocker with a positive attitude. The song is carried by a rockin groove, a confident and energetic vocal performance, a good chorus and another successful guitar solo battle. The result is a very good exclusive song, which raises expectations for the quality of the full length album.

The remaining 4 tracks are live recordings from Unisonic's Masters Of Rock Festival 2012 performance. All songs are performed well and retain their live feel, but the stand out ones are the successful debut album opener "Unisonic" and the atmospheric "Star Rider".

All in all, a strong EP that whets the appetite for the forthcoming album and creates great expectations.

Unisonic's debut from a couple of years back was a pretty big deal in power metal circles, and now, after Gamma Ray's splendid 'Empire Of The Undead', the Germans are back with a new EP to tease fans before their upcoming sophomore effort. The collaboration between Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske is a much publicized one, so I won't go into here. Suffice it to say, their debut was a fun blast of power metal mixed with pop and hard rock elements, and here it's much the same. You get two new songs for your money, and four live tunes from Monsters Of Rock, all of which prove how well Unisonic work in a live environment.

The new songs are really something, with the title track being by far the most Helloween-ish number the band have penned. Full of double kick drums, harmonic guitars, and Kiske's soaring vibrato, this could've been on 'Keepers' easily, and it will no doubt have people reassessing the metal nature of this band. 'You Come Undone' is more of a hard rocking affair, but still has more in common with early Helloween than much of the material that graced the debut. So, two excellent new songs, and superb renditions of tracks from the debut make this a must have for fans. I haven't heard the debut in some time, so it's nice to be reminded of how good songs like 'Souls Alive' and the band's self-titled track are. Get it. Then get the album.
