And those 3 (Three) are Deep Soul tracks that only Shirley Brown (Or Aretha Franklin) can belt out! Those cuts are "After A Night Like This", "Dirty Feeling", and "Eyes Can't See". The remaining cuts flirt with Disco and Contemporary R&B, NOT the Deep Soul recordings Shirley Brown is known for. This album released during Stax's 3rd (And worse) comeback (1978 to 1980). The only few songs during this period that did make some noise was The Bar-Kays "Holy Ghost" (A #9 Billboard Charted Hit Single!), The Soul Children "Can't Give Up A Good Thing" (A #19 Billboard Charted Hit Single!) and The Rance Allen Group "I Belong To You" (A #29 Billboard Charted Hit Single). Everything else released (Singles and Albums) from the label was nothing to write home about including this poor selling Shirley Brown album. In the last year or so Stax Records has returned for a 4th time! with newly signed artist like Teena Maria, Kelly Price, Leon Ware and others. Hopefully this time around something major will happen. Who knows maybe the good folks at Concord Records who currently owns the Stax Catalog (Old Masters and Unreleased recordings) will dig deep into the vaults and give us some jewels and gems from Johnnie Taylor, Shack, Hot Sauce and other artists from the Stax vaults along with new Deep Soul, R&B and Blues Artists who deserve to have a new home!
