Product Description

It's the 6th century A.D. and Christianity has been imposed throughout Egypt. On the holy island of Philae, off the southern coast, the last community faithful to the old ways struggles against the invader and continues in active worship in its temple. Isis, leader of the community, is determined that their ideals will not die out. She embarks upon an unequal struggle against the all-powerful bishop Theodore to preserve the ancient mysteries. With the help of Sabni, who is bound to her by an everlasting love, Isis succeeds in restoring confidence to the followers. However, from north to south, dangers rise up to threaten the temple's existence. For the love of Philae, the fate of a thousand-year-old faith is at stake.

For the Love of Isis 31 May 2004
Format:Paperback
After the fall of the Roman Empire in A.D. 410, Byzantium imposes Christianity on all of Egypt. Seen as the last stronghold to paganism the Holy Island of Philae in Elephantine becomes the focus of conversion for the all powerful Bishop Theodore. Philae's High Priestess Isis strong in constitution is determined to preserve the four thousand year old mysteries of the ancient Egyptian religion. Along with the High Priest Sabni and the adepts Isis faces a constant disparaging battle with Theodore and the long arm of Christianity. Many times Isis's people are challenged with some even faltering, but overall she instills a since of community and renewed confidence.

"For the Love of Philae" will infuriate your sense of right and wrong. It will bring light to the ways in which religion is used as a justification to obliterate whole people. It is a love story to the very end.

I have often heard women say they wish that they could be a character in someone's novel. Well I wish I could be an Isis in Christian Jacq's novel.

ANOTHER WONDERFUL NOVEL BY JACQ.

As usual Christian Jacq combines his magical vivid imagination with historical fact to come up with a love story in league with the heavens. This book finds Isis (High Priestess of Philae) and Sabni (high Priest of Philae) in a bitter battle with the Bishop Theodore (A Christian torn between old and new with a deep rooted pagan respect for the old ways)fighting for the survival of their community on the Island. Christianity has taken over Egypt and Philae is the last pagan strong hold cherishing the traditions of yesterday. Battles rage, murders and sexual encounters scandalise the community, but the love between Sabni and Isis will prevail and Paganism will not die out.......or will it. A great stand alone novel which will have you cursing the Bishop and falling in love with Isis, a real Egyptian beauty.
A great book.......and if you have ever been to Philae or infact Egypt you will find yourself being transported back in time. GREAT!
