'It is one of those tales about how life can turn on a sixpence: one minute everything is dandy, the next all is darkness.' - Joe Joseph, The Times

Product Description

In this incredible and moving memoir, a mother tells of her fight for justice to convict her daughter’s murderer for a crime that he thought could never be punished.

When her 22-year-old daughter, Julie, went missing in the night, Ann Ming was certain she had been murdered. Liaising with the police, looking after Julie’s beloved three-year-old son, Ann waited desperately for news. Three months later she found her child's decomposing body behind a bath panel.

A violent local man, Billy Dunlop, was tried for her murder but a series of blunders allowed him to walk free. Knowing he could not be tried again under the law of Double Jeopardy, he callously bragged about his 'perfect crime'.

But Dunlop had not reckoned on Ann Ming…

This is the extraordinary story of a fight for justice which she never gave up. A moving account of courage and determination, showing how much a mother's love can achieve.

A great story of courage 14 April 2009
By Hayles
Format:Hardcover
Ann Ming is a truly remarkable woman but while this book relives the full horror of her daughter's murder and her killer's inital escape from justice it lacks the real detail of how Ann got a 800 year law overturned to get real justice. I am not sure if Ann is hiding her light or whether she was advised that the legal detail would be too dry for some readers, but the second half of the book does not do justice to her tireless fight. This is still a remarkeable story that should be turned into a film, it's just a shame that those who don't know the full details of the 'justice for julie' campaign only get a flavour of it here.

This is one of the best books I have ever read in my life. Ann Ming should feel so proud of her acheievement to gain justice for Julie.
I just loved reading about Julie, her life, her adored son and how much she cared for her lovely mum and dad.
Ann must have been crushed when she realised she knew full well who had taken Julie's life but was unable to prove it. She then went about trying to have the 800 year old law changed to bring to the courts further evidence of her murder that had come to light.
She had me in tears, then at the same time, the way she stood up to high ranking police officers and red tape had me laughing out loud.
Such a good book, I was sad when I got to the end.
Mrs Ming, Julie would be so proud of you.
