Product Description

Pillar's 'For The Love Of The Game' is big, fun, infectious rock and roll that further solidifies Pillar's position as fearless leaders in the Christian Rock world. "We've been doing this a while and recently we've realised just how much we love what we get to do. We play rock and roll for a living and get to be a part of lives changing. Focusing on that gives you a different perspective; we have a new appreciation and love for it." Rob Beckley.

After being left disappointed by their 2006 album, The Reckoning, this album is a fantastic return to form by Pillar. There is a bit of everything on this album. There are hard rock songs like: "For The Love Of The Game", "Reckless Youth" and "Throwdown" as well as slower songs like "Smiling Down" & "I Fade Away"

Everything on this album has been improved from previous releases. The drumming is fantastic in this album as are the guitars.

Every song on this album is great, and there are songs for all. I will briefly describe each song:

1. For The Love Of The Game (9/10) - A great opening track, a fantastic intro riff on this song. Really gets you pumped up.

2. Turn It Up (10/10) - My favourite song on the album. Melodic verses with great lyrics with a pumping chorus. Vocals sound great on this track

3. Reckless Youth (8/10) - Another fast, heavy song. Much like the opening track, this track really gets you energised. A sweet guitar solo in this track also.

4. State Of Emergency (7/10) - Much calmer than the previous tracks. Not such a fan of this one. The vocals sound superb again, really nice lyrics.

5. Smiling Down (9/10) - The slowest song on the album, however is one the best. Has a great sing-along chorus resembling Nickelback.

6. The Runaway (8/10) - Returns to the hard sound of the opening few tracks. Has a punk feel to it, particularly in the verses.

7. Throwdown - (8/10) - Probably the heaviest song on the album, has a real nu-metal feel to it, features rapping in the chorus similar to songs from their Fireproof album

8. Get Down - (8/10) - A great hard rock song. Another memorable chorus

Pillar have just outdone themselves! And that's saying allot! For the love of the game is Pillar's best album to date, everything has been improved from Rob's voice to Nohas mad riffs, to Kalels insane bass lines. The most striking thing about this album is the drumming, Lester has stepped it up! The drums on this album OWN!

As usual, there's something for everyone, from loud, hard rock anthems like "Throwdown" and "For the love of the game", to slow, soft, melodic ballads like "Smiling down" and "I fade away", you're sure to find something you love. There are absolutely no fillers on this album; it's pretty obvious from the get-go that each and every song on this album was created with a great deal of care and attention.

Pillar's last album was a bit of a letdown for me, purely because it was missing the hard rock edge found in "Where do we go from here", But they have definitely made up for it with "For the love of the game" It is exactly what I was hoping for and more.

If you've never heard Pillar before, this album is the perfect place to start! If you like rock 'n' roll, BUY IT NOW! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Unlike our other reviewers here, I only know Pillar from this album and "Where do we go from here." Pillar's sound is so different, but simular to a lot of bands at the same time. Now, "Where do we go from here" is a quality album, all the songs are well written and put together. Very dramatic and in your face. However "For the love of the game" is something else. I bought it a few days after release, and I still can't ever get bored in listening through the album. And I get bored with bands quite easily. If you like heavy guitar, beautiful riffs and dramatic lyrics... well this is all you need. Oh and by the way.... they're a Christian band.
