This book had potential but it just seemed to move too slowly. The main character was sympathetic and likeable, and the plot elements were handled in a plausible manner, but the book just failed to take off. A pity really. Minor changes here and there could have made a difference.

This is one of the best books that he has written, I would not hesitate to reommend it. The point about diffrent social attidues is just as valid now as it was then. Although not quite as strict now in that area, in other areas it is just as strong if not stonger.

An enjoyable Dick Francis that does what it's supposed to.

I read it on the train to and from work in a few days and every time I couldn't wait to get back to it.

Recommended.
