Review

'There's action and passion galore in Joy Chambers' FOR FREEDOM. Set in the Pacific during World War II, lives go helter-skelter and the heroine, Lexie, finds herself married to one man, but in lust with another'

(Australian Women's Weekly )

'[A] riveting bestseller'

(Sunday Telegraph )

'A great rollercoaster of a novel, with plenty of fierce fighting, thrilling exploits and tender romance. The main charcaters...are well-rounded and full of flaws and complexities [and] the exoitic backdrop is well depicted'

(Historical Novels Review )

Product Description

'The Japanese won't wait much longer to attack. Can't you understand we're on borrowed time?'

December 1941. The whole of South East Asia appears to be capitulating before the rising sun and four remarkable people are about to reassess their lives:

Lexi Robinson: the doctor with a secret from the past who escapes before Hong Kong is invaded, only to find herself still within the enemy net.

John Drayton Whitby: Australian army officer who focuses on the long, harrowing fight for freedom even whilst his mind clouds with suspicions about his wife.

Hank 'Trap' Trapperton: the West Point-trained American 'spy' who is John Drayton's trusted friend and yet not really his friend at all.

And Kathleen Leigh, the woman brought up to believe a lie until the day comes when she must confront the appalling truth.

Another epic story. 13 Sep 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When I bought Joy Chambers new book `For Freedom', one thing I probably expected was it to be a good book, Wrong, this book far surpassed my expectations. I have read `Vale Valhalla' and `None but the Brave' from the same author. But this one, from the first page to page 673 it was totally, un - put - able-down.

This is one book I could recommend to anyone. It gives a very graphic account of the war in the South West Pacific during 1941 to 1945, it is a book that all children should read in our schools.

I have to say that Joy Chambers is up there with the very best Authors and meticulously researches her book subject's.

Well Done!!

I have read all Joy Chambers books and thoroughly enjoyed them all but For Freedom was something else. It was informative, educational, entertaining and totally engrossing. I couldn't put it down and have since reread it twice and enjoyed it as much as the first time I read it..It is a book I will not part with and I really hope Joy Chambers carries on writing.
