Product Description

Product Description

Many regard Revelation as the hardest book in the New Testament. It is full of strange, lurid, and sometimes bizarre and violent imagery. As a result, people who are quite at home in the Gospels, Acts and Paul’s letters find themselves tiptoeing around Revelation with a sense that they don’t really belong there. But they do! This book offers one of the clearest and sharpest visions of God’s ultimate purpose for the whole creation. Here we see how the powerful forces of evil can be and are being overthrown through the victory of Jesus the Messiah, which continues to inspire and strengthen his followers today. The guides in this series by Tom Wright can be used on their own or alongside his New Testament for Everyone commentaries. They are designed to help you understand the Bible in fresh ways under the guidance of one of the world’s leading New Testament scholars. Thoughtful questions, prayer suggestions, and useful background and cultural information all guide you into a deeper understanding of the Christian story and the Christian life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I was expecting 23 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I love the Tom Wright commentary series and use them a great deal. I hoped that this study guide would help my bible study group tackle Revelation - a difficult book to understand.
Each chapter of the book is given its own set of questions and we are working through them week by week. However it does feel a little odd in the way the questions are structured. Some are terribly simple comprehension style questions, which seem too easy and then the next question will be tough theology which requires extra information that isn't in the text. The best bits are the practical application questions and the opportunities for reflection and prayer at the end of each session.
I think next time I'll recommend to my bible study group that they buy the actual commentary and then we can make up our own questions.

Good guide through one of the most difficult books of the bible. Felt it could do with being a bit deeper. Definitely good for group work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good material 19 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As always with Tom Wright, the book keeps the reader/learner focussed. However, it was not the book I thought it was. I picked a book from the wrong series! The one I wanted was "Revelation for Everyone."

5.0 out of 5 stars Tom Wright Study Guide on Revelation 21 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This will be our next study course. We find all of Tom Wright's guides so stretching and so well written and this is going to be the same.
