A right good read!! 22 Jan 2009
By Shirley
Format:Paperback
This is a very well written story. The author manages to convey the thoughts and views of each of the main characters very well. The realism of the young British girl - swept away by the GI's and all they portrayed is excellent, and probably fits very well into what life was like during the dangerous war years. Wanting to escape from boring old England to that far off land of 'milk and honey' - to the land of plenty after years of rationing. Together with her sister, who 'grows up' within her marriage to a much older man. Both main characters (sisters) have their ups and downs with their various menfolk during the course of the story. If there is one criticism .... the tale ends rather abruptly - which is a shame - or maybe there is a further chapter .... A good read - which is difficult to put down.

Excellent Book 17 Aug 2011
By Maureen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is another great Freda Lightfoot book, well written, great characters, what we have come to expect from Ms. Lightfoot.

The "but" comes from the editing of the kindle edition. Aside from quite a few missed words, wrong words etc (which seems to be all to common with kindle editions) in Chapter 7 of this book, the chapter just stops abruptly, in the middle of the sentence.

I kept reading of course and lo and behold if chapter 7 was not lurking within chapter 13.

It's really a shame about the editing on this book because it is great but errors like missing chapters take away from it. I sent the details to Amazon, hopefully the publisher will fix it. Still worth reading.

****Update - just an update to note that Freda Lightfoot actually left a comment (see comment linked to this review) to say the editing error was corrected!

At first, I did not think I would enjoy this book, but I did. In fact I had more pages to read, and could not go to bed until I had finished the book.
