Johnny is not your conventional football writer as thousands of his
addicted readers already know. Rude, crude and some say, off his nut, he's
always compelling and controversial.
Footy Rocks brings together 50 of his best columns from the last 5 years in
all their football, sex, drugs and rock n roll glory.
Booze, bodily functions, narcotics, the north, knickers, Middlesbrough,
Californication, guitars and Gary Neville; they're all here.
And amongst the madness are some serious rants about the state of the
modern game, the people who watch it and the people who play it.
You get 50 columns, all with brand new intros plus two major new previously
unpublished writings.
So crank up the music, get yourself a big drink, you're going to need it.
Heeeerrrrre's Johnny!

Ranting and Dribbling,
By HoJo (France) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Footy Rocks!: The 50 Best Rants and Dribbles from Football365's Controversial Columnist (Paperback)
If you're sick and tired of the cosy boys club that constitutes most football writing these days, then here's the perfect antidote. John Nicholson lives football like most of us live it - raw, passionate and illogical. He's a Boro fan, poor sod, but no matter what team you support you'll be able to relate to the lopsided, louche and supremely funny take on the game that Nicholson always brings to his short, sharp broadsides at the daft world that is top class pro footy. OK, if you don't have massive collection of obscure rock records you might find some of his references a little left of the centrespot. And if you don't like your language blue you might simply drop this paperback in astonishment. But Nicholson isn't here to give us the sanitised version of the game. He's here to talk about football as we really experience it, warts and swear words and all. But above all this is a very funny, very human book, that will make you think about footy in ways you never thought possible. You'll both laugh out loud and you'll tear your hair out as he highlights the sheer stupidity of the game, but you'll also recognise the same unfathomable love that you yourself have for the round ball from a man who will keep you entertained for hours on end.

Funny, Clever ......and a bit Rude!,
By Mark Mac (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Footy Rocks!: The 50 Best Rants and Dribbles from Football365's Controversial Columnist (Paperback)
A fresh new sort of writing that I wish there was more of.
Been reading Footy Rocks on the train to work every day and it's been great for blocking out the grim reality of a sweaty carriage! If your a genuine footy fan you'll like this book, he has lots of funny thoughts and clever insights, not to mention the strong music theme throughout. A big fan of John Nicholson's Football365.com writings for a long time, he definitely hits the mark.

Football365.com has employed this fella to write some of the most radical, odd, and, on occasion, genius stuff about football for the whole of this century to my knowledge. Funny, weird but always entertaining, I don't know a better writer to pass away a few hours with. cheer john.
