Footsteps 2 is a 'must have' for all lovers of exceptional vocals, outstanding musicality and superb production. There are 14 tracks on the Album, 4 of which are original songs from Chris...the remaining 10 are covers of songs which have been an enormous influence on Chris' career.
The CD starts with 'While You See A Chance', a song that is new to me but one which has a very 'catchy' melody and interesting lyrics.
This is followed by the Beatle's classis 'Let It Be'. An excellent interpretation: beautiful vocals and sensitive piano playing, building up to a full guitar solo...wonderful!
'The Living Years' is the next track; a very emotional song which is sung with passion and a poignancy that gives the song the respect it deserves, coupled with beautiful backing vocals.
Roy Orbison's 'Blue Bayou' highlights Chris' exceptional vocal range; easy listening with simple backing vocals and uncomplicated accompaniment.
'SOS' is the UK single from the Album. I love Chris' version of this song as he concentrates on the lyrics, singing with a feeling that other Artists fail to achieve. The song then builds to an amazing full band sound...fantastic for performing 'live' on stage.
Then comes 'Seven Bridges'..originally a German song, interpreted by Chris' own lyrics. I hadn't heard this song before but loved it immediately. Powerful, vocally and musically.
Another Beatle's classic..'Lady Madonna' follows and is probably the song I like least on the Album. The vocals and music are faultless, just not a personal favourite.
Following my least favourite, comes one of my favourites: 'Time In A Bottle'. Once again, sung with such passion, sensitivity and perfect vocals, allowing us to hear, and digest, the beautiful lyrics.
'Already There' is the first of Chris' own songs which I loved on first hearing. The melody is 'catchy' with a wonderful story about hopes and dreams and how to make them come true...classic CdeB!
'In The Ghetto' is another personal favourite. So good is Chris' interpretation, he actually transports me to the Ghetto when I listen to this song. Once again, beautiful vocals and simple accompaniment.
'Long Train Running' is a song I think will be perfect for a 'live' performance: fast moving and good for dancing.
'On A Christmas Night' is another of Chris' own songs. I was surprised to find a Christmas song on this Album, however, in true CdeB style, we experience Christmas through the eyes of a small boy; beautifully sung, with strong backing vocals and a 'stay in your head' melody.
'Every Step Of The Way' written by Chris is definitely another firm favourite. A story of life's hardships and struggles but, more importantly, of friendship. CdeB at his best!!
The album culminates in the 'Footsteps 2' theme which resembles the Footsteps theme, with a slight variation; linking the two together.
A wonderful album by Chris de Burgh; a 'must have' for all fans past, present and future! 5*
