Product Description

Product Description

* From bestselling author Andrew Ward. * Over a century's worth of fascinating football stories and tales. * The perfect gift for the football fanatic in your family! The world's favourite sport has certainly given us its fair share of strange moments. Author Andrew Ward has trawled the sports pages of history to create Football's Strangest Matches, a fascinating collection of bizarre-yet-true tales from more than a century of the beautiful game. From Blackburn Rovers' one-man team to Wilfred Minter's seven-goal haul in which he still ended up on the losing side, there are goals and gaffes galore drawn from all levels of the football world, whether high-profile internationals or the lowest tiers of domestic football. This extraordinary book makes a great gift for any football fan, and certainly proves the old adage beloved by football commentators - 'it's a funny old game'...Other titles in the series: Rugby's Strangest Matches (9781907554063), Cricket's Strangest Matches (9781907554094) and Golf's Strangest Rounds (9781907554070).

Good! 25 Mar 2001
Format:Paperback
A really good book, I couldn't put it down and the stories in there were hilarious. The best one is the one about the game which was replayed about 5 times in the FA cup. This is ideal for any football fan out there.

Bought as a present so have not actually read it cover to cover but seems to be the kind of book you could read a couple of chapters, put it down, then carry on at some later date.

its good for a light read and your being has a requirement to cease to exist if you are a football widow, and vice-versa for the newly found batchelor!

it is a must buy for the statto that knows everything fom the pre 2nd WW FA cup third round runners up to the future ladbrokes employee of the year!
