Product Description

Product Description

A Football Odyssey represents a new slant on football writing. It addresses the game through the eyes of ordinary supporters. If you want to glory in the whims and fancies of 20-year-old millionaires - or the sanitised accounts of the rise and rise of clubs funded by oil-billionaires or leveraged buy outs -then this isn't for you. However, if you want to understand why the Jambos break their fan's hearts - or what it means to downsize your Uniteds - or how this game can shape and mirror lives- then you're in the right bit of the sport section. A book that is truly of the fans, for the fans and, most importantly, by the fans. Chapters on Glasgow Celtic by Jim O'Brien. on Hereford United by Jools Page, on Birmingham City by Paul Bowes, on Heart of Midlothian by David Thomson, on Southend United by Helen Mitchell, on Raith Rovers by Ann Brand, on Bristol Rovers by Eileen Sutton, on Motherwell by Hugh Paton, and on Sheffield Wednesday by Sean Fenelon.

This review is from: A Football Odyssey: For The Fans By The Fans (Paperback)
I have just finished reading the book "A Football Odyssey:For The Fans By The Fans" and found it to be a very good read especially the Hearts and Raith Rovers chapters obviously.I have supported Hearts all my life and also Raith Rovers as there has always been a close link between the two clubs i.e.some really good Raith players have come to Hearts : Willie Polland,Willie Wallace and probably Colin Cameron as the best of them all.I have been fortunate to see both clubs win trophies as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, very enjoyable !, 11 Feb 2010

This review is from: A Football Odyssey: For The Fans By The Fans (Paperback)
I've just finished this book and found it to be entertaining and worth every minute of the time taken to read it, even for a non - footie girl ! (My husband is a fanatic and talked me into reading it). I particularly enjoyed the witty chapter following Hereford United ! I recommend this book highly - shame it had to end so soon !
