Excellent Infotainment 30 April 2011
By SR
I bought this book back in 1991 sometime after the Italia 90 World Cup, in which the football was dreadful and the stars of the show were the grounds.

At the time our grounds were ancient.

The book obviously gave all the information you'd expect about the grounds covered, but also interesting backgrounds and history of the clubs, or important events and paersonalitie associated with the ground or club. It was reading this book that I learned that Scotland and Albania have (or had) teh hihgest per capita attendences at football matches in Europe.

The 1990 World Cup set a trend of huge investment in stadiums and infrastructure in the host country. RIght now Ukraine/Poland and France are upgrading their grounds for Euro 2012 and 2016 respectively, and just look at what is being planned for Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022. This book is therefore well overdue a comprehensive update, but will probably become outdated again quickly.

I'm surprised no one else has written a similar book because for any football/travel/culture/history/architecture loving person this would a wonderful subject to cover.
