About the Author

Photographer Peter Robinson trained at Leicester College of Art and The Royal College of Art, and began his professional career in 1965. After working on The Football League magazine he was invited by Sir Stanley Rous on behalf of FIFA to photograph the Mexico '70 World Cup. Over a period of 35 years, Robinson has covered 9 World Cups, the English and Scottish leagues, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the European Cup/Champions League. He has run his own photographic agency, and has mounted major exhibitions of his work. Author Will Hoon studied Design History at the Royal College of Art, where he also embarked on the first academic appraisal of the material culture of English professional football. Elements of this ground-breaking study were later used the V&A exhibition 'Streetstyles' and BBC North's 'Kicking and Screaming: A History of English Football'. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

It's great fun looking through this book with a cup of tea during a quiet moment. It gives you an appreciation of how many things have changed in the game, but also how many things have stayed the same. There are some great old pictures, and they bring back memories for me like World Cups and cup finals but also has lots of much older pictures which are great to flick through. It also gives you a sense of the depth of football in the UK, with a picture of some dishevelled but perfectly usable goals and nets on Hackney Marshes. It also brings back memories of some of the grounds I visited pre-Premiership - places like the Baseball Ground, Derby - before the money really came into football and the big new stadiums were put up all over the place. Very few words but they are not required - the picures tell you everything you need to know. My only complaint - no pictures of The Dell, where I grew up as a football supporter and of which many football fans will have memories. Otherwise this would be five stars.

Coffee table book that my friends actually pick up and enjoy. Stunning and candid old photos related to football around the world. Best for me are the black and white photos from English football in the 60's. Not just the glamour teams... you get the fans, the grounds, the players and managers. I can't stop looking through it.
