This film is in dire need of a review less than--nearly-- two(2!)years old.
I have a 52" Sony Bravia, widescreen, television. I actually LIKE some OLDER films, but MISS
using my e=n=t=i=r=e "movie"-screen.
The NEW version --the FIRST time-- is available as originally released to theatres.
God bless Amazon.com... however... This title is available on:
1)==> VHS-- pan & scan (cropped),formated to fit an "OLD" TV.--skip it!
2)==> DVD-- " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " "--skip it!
3)==> DVD-R Wonder-filmed in Amazorama (1:85-widescreen),
manufactured on demand--
from Columbia Pictures ([...])---------------------BUY it!
This film, released on my tenth birthday[6 August 1959], was remembered for its creapout fac-
tor: released after the star (Lou Costello) died.
It wasn't until my gran'pa (1865-1960) died that I, finally, saw it as part of a triple-feature.
But, alas, even then, at my old-fashioned, soon to be shut down-- small, Illinois town, SQUARE-
screened -- movie theater, the film was cropped to fit THAT screen!
I repeat:
This film actually fits every single [rectangular] (not square) inch of my new 55" TV.
The film, seen for years--horribly-- ONLY as in the, awfully grainy, center-portion of the film.
A little less than half of the picture is missing on You-Tube excerpts... just like I saw it.
The film is BETTER(!)in widescreen. The SFX in "The 50 Foot Woman" and "Colossal (50' Man) Beast"
is cheesy... the special effects--when viewed as a child-- as convincingly real as possible.
See it for yourself... the NEW -- original -- version!
The NEWLY REMASTERED transfer is, individually, made for you. ABBOTT & COSTELLO; AMOS & ANDY;
LAUREL & HARDY; LITTLE RASCALS; THE THREE STOOGES; JERRY LEWIS; and THE CLINTONS, are ac-
quired-tastes... you LOVE 'em, or you HATE 'em. Period.
I find this RELEASE, new, and very refreshing!
The transfer is EXCELLENT!
Just do NOT buy the wrong version.
Not one single scratch on the film, and the special-effects actually LOOK better when they
haven't been magnified, cut, and centered.
Buy the WHOLE picture... do like I did. Throw the old, inferior, VHS and DVD away!
Now!
Remember, you WANT the DVD-R...
See for yourself. Lou Costello in widescreen! Wow! Buy it!
