The back of the DVD box declares "Sandra Bullock and Jonathan Penner star in this hilarious, sexy comedy". This statement breaches the trade desciptions act on 3 counts.
1. It does not star Sandra Bullock - she is in the movie for at the most 5 mins out of its entire 81 minutes. It stars this guy Jonathan Penner ... Jonathan who?
2. It is not hilarious - it is not even funny or mildly amusing - I sat throughout (that's determination, stupidity or masochistic) without even raising a smile.
3. It is not sexy - there's one scene in a bedroom at the beginning, which, if you blink, you will miss.
So what is this film about? Somebody had a great idea for a satire on modern US ethics and TV evangelism, but they forgot that it's not the content of the joke, it's the way you tell it.
Here there are a lot of unknown actors and actresses, who possess very little acting talent, trying to sell an amateurish script to a gullible public. They, unfortunately, confused the movie with real life.
For those who like Sandra Bullock, and I confess to be one, this must have been the lowest point of her acting career and one that she will, no doubt, wish to forget and never have mentioned in her presence. But hey! - everyone's entitled to one big mistake.
If you may be thinking maybe this guy does not have a sense of humour, think again. I have been known to roll around on the floor with tears of laughter streaming from my eyes, ribs aching, arms across my stomach and pleading for the humour to end, whilst others have sat there more amused by me than what I am watching. A sense of humour I have in spades.
Be warned - don't touch this film with a barge-pole. On second thoughts, use the barge pole to inter this flop of a movie to a deserved watery grave. At least you'll have some sense of satisfaction and a smile on your face!
