Product Description

FOOD FOR THOUGHT is a well known phrase, often used - and this time Beth Richards hopes her latest title will give some readers just that - Food for Thought! In our present generation of the 21st Century folk are living their lives as though on a treadmill. They may be going faster and faster - but, like a treadmill, they are going nowhere fast. Time and money seem to be of the essence in everything. Primary Care Trusts are only interested in their target figures! Beth Richards has written many of the poems in Food for Thought relating to everyday life - life in this hectic 21st Century. She hopes that in this book many readers may be helped to live life to the full - to live in the present and not wish the precious gift of life away. The last poem 'Final Curtain Call' comes to us all one day. We should make sure it's later rather than sooner! The short stories also included in this volume will delight and entertain the reader, as they touch on human nature and, again, some of the dilemmas of modern life, with insight and humour.

This is Beth's eighth book. The first two thirds consists of poetry, followed by some short stories, some of which are only suitable for adults. Beth has told me that many of these were written for competitions, then added to her book later on, so not always her type of writing.

I like the way her style has developed over the years. Beth explores new territory and seems to push the boundaries more now. She says in the preface that modern life is too hectic. This is a view that she has expressed to me and I am inclined to think that she is right.

My favourite poem is "Time Will Tell" on page 85. The concept behind this is on the lines of "this too will pass", which can be a comforting thought when facing something difficult.
