Infamous schlock director Burt I. Gordon knows that ultimately we are not here for deep cinematic happenings with the likes of "Food of the Gods", he knows we are herefor thrills n chills.

Sadly he does not actually provide any real thrills or chills, but he does (give praise!) provide some nicely bloody and ferocious giant rat attacks, silly characters, a top slumming cast of wannabe's and has beens, plentiful action (with some very nasty looking `shotgun' hits on the rats that look disturbingly like the poor rodents really were blasted), the odd pleasing visual, a very effective score, wasps that explode in a puff of black smoke when shot, icky rubber grubs, enjoyable (in a "Thunderbirds" way) itty-bitty model destruction, growling rodents, a 'Queen' white rat who takes a liking to Football players and...GIANT CHICKENS!

How could any self respecting bad movie freak not treat themselves to at least one cheeky nibble at such a tasty slice of cinematic art? Exactly!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Giant Hit 14 April 2008
Good old Bert I Gordon still thinks it is the 50's. This time,
instead of radiation, giant G.I.'S and rock'n'roll hating spiders,
here is a tale of what happens when man messes with nature.
Marjoe Gortner gets stuck on an island over-run by all sorts of giant
mice, wasps, even chickens!
A farmer discovers a growth hormone and feeds it to his livestock with
predictable results. A good fun movie with Gordon's trademark
super-imposed photographic effects which hold a certain charm in these
days of lazy CGI.
A fast pace, good cast including Pamela Franklin and Ida Lupino in her
last role, and great rat costumes make this a fine weekend movie.

2.0 out of 5 stars My friend was killed by your wasps.... 2 April 2014
Morgan and his friends are on a hunting trip on a remote Canadian island when they are attacked by a swarm of giant wasps.

Looking for help, Morgan stumbles across a barn inhabited by an enormous killer chicken.

After doing some exploring, they discover the entire island is crawling with animals that have somehow grown to giant size.

The most dangerous of all of these, however, are the rats, who are mobilising to do battle with the human intruders....

If you want to see a film with a man fighting a giant rubber chicken, look no further.

Yes, the film is trite, it has so many problems that you just have to laugh at all the bizarreness of the finished product.

Killer wasps that look like they are ghosts, rats superimposed to look like they are huge, Mrs skinner saying 'oh my god' every five minutes, and Morgans mullet.

The script is awful, the narration bad, and the acting is what can be expected, when the most recognisable people in this, are the bloke from American Ninja 3, and the one who played 'Man At Arms' in Masters of the Universe.

It tries to be serious, but fails miserably, but is good for a once only, laugh in.

And to threaten us with a sequel featuring huge cows deserves a round of applause.

Crazy stuff, but so worth watching.

missed this when it was first released so was overjoyed to finally get it about animals growing huge and dangerous after eating infected corn, the bees look a bit fake and the giant cockrel and chickens attacking has to be seen to be belived but the giant rats are scary and theyre attacks are grizzly and shocking particurally the first one

1.0 out of 5 stars Food the Gods??? 28 Jun 2004
Format:VHS Tape
This must rank of one of the worst films of all time. A true shlock horror movie. I wish it wasn't the case though. One of my musical compositions is on this movie and I wasn't paid a penny for it. C'est la vie!
