Book Description

29 Oct 2010
'Food for Friends' is an exciting cookbook from one of Britain's landmark meat-free restaurants. Bringing together a brand with over 25 years history, a huge customer base and an innovative and refreshing approach to both everyday and occasion dining, this is a very significant addition to the cookery shelf. Based on the restaurant's seasonal menus and daily specials, 'Food for Friends' is an inspiring and practical approach to cooking recipes that are meat-free or cater for special dietary requirements. 'This is a collection of our customers favourite recipes. Luckily for them lots of our dishes are focused around the fusion of really good flavours, and not fussy cooking techniques. Our approach is understated; something we believe comes from a confident kitchen team'; Jane and Ramin Mostowfi

3.0 out of 5 stars Great food but untested recipes 22 April 2012
Format:Hardcover
We ate at the restaurant in Brighton and enjoyed it tremendously. When we saw the book we just had to have it. Now that we have tried several of the recipes, we feel that a good deal is left to interpretation, and the book can't have been tested by anyone unfamiliar with the unusual ingrediants and methods employed here. When a recipe called for "cassava squash" we were sufficiently worried because of the toxicity of cassava that we actually phoned the restuarant; the chef said she uses butternut squash instead. The lesson we draw from this is to seriously try out any recipe well before doing it for a dinner party, and if there seems to be anything strange in there, to research it and not just trust the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful - what took them so long? :o) 16 Nov 2010
Format:Hardcover
Food for Friends is one of my favourite restaurants but at the moment I can't afford to eat there so I was really excited when I saw this book! And I wasn't disappointed, I love it! It gives you the opportunity to create their wonderful dishes in your own kitchen, including past dishes that are not on their current menu (their Snorkers (veggie sausages) with creamy mash and wilted garlic spinach was a firm favourite of mine but disappeared off their menu a while back - I can't wait to cook it for myself!). And the recipes are quite achievable for most people, they are not too complex and you won't have to spend your whole day in the kitchen.

The only downside for me (and the reason I have given four stars instead of five) is that not all the recipes have photos - I would love to have a photo of the whole dish, as they serve it in the restaurant, for each of the recipes - this is part of the pleasure of a cook book to me and helps me to see what the finished dish should look like. But I still think it's a lovely book (and long overdue!)

Thanks Food for Friends for so generously sharing your beautiful recipes :o)
