Four years of college (boozing, fast food and exercise limited to rolling out of bed at lunchtime) have left my once toned body, frankly, a bit of a mess! Having decided to try and get some of youthful good looks back, I spent the past, three months, agonisingly, trying to get healthy, lose weight and start feeling positive about my appearance again. Unfortunately, this was harder than anticipated. Simply cutting down on food, running to catch the bus, instead of waiting for the next one and trying to do sit-ups every morning just wasn't working, in fact I felt worse. 'Food for Fitness' changed everything. Anita Bean explained the importance of a healthy diet, the concept of food as fuel and the importance of balance, between what we eat and the exercise we take. It was a revelation! If anyone has the inclination but no direction, this book is a must.

Within 3 days of reading this book and following one of the eating plans, I have lost 3 pounds and have far more energy than I had before to go to the gym. It teaches you a completely new way of thinking about food and eating the right foods for the type of exercise you are doing. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys exercising.

I am still reading through the book and am learning loads about my body. It can be quite concise at times (e.g. calculating how much protein is appropriate for your weight) but I just skip those bits and still have plenty to enjoy. Would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone looking to improve/maximise/understand their body through nutrition and exercise.
