very interesting book written both in english and german. It defines food design as a term "including all processes and decisions related to successfully designing food in a reproductible and recurring way", and goes on to describe each one of these aspects by giving information gathered from a meticulous research. It does not contain any recipes and does not focus on food styling, so if you were looking for something like that it might disapoint you. For me it was a pleasure to read and I enjoyed the history facts, the beautiful pictures and a more scientific approach to food design describing in detail all the parts that a designer/cook/chemist would have to think about before designing food.

A terrific mid-sized coffee-table book that one actually wants to read. A lot of research was conducted and translated into accessible writing and a good narrative for a broad audience. Anyone with an interest in food will find something in it of interest, and the accompanying photographs are quite stunning. Love it.

I am really into design and cooking, so the book was very interesting for me. The pictures are gorgeous!
It could have a bit more of content, but it is already a great introduction for the area.

I was looking for a gift to give to my German Mom in law, since she is a chef. From the description, this book sounded like the perfect gift. Not only did it have beautiful, colorful pictures, it also came in english and german. But when I recieved the book,imagine my surprise to find that it was just a "food" book. No recipes, no designs, nothing!! I was so angry. This book was like $40. I only pay that kind of money for school books. Returning this book! Not worth the money.
