Firstly I have to say, I don't own this tin, I have the Winsor & Newton official version (
The Bijou Watercolour Box), which I've owned and used and loved for over a year now and couldn't live without. However, I bought this for my friend as a gift after we spent months trying to come up with a tin for her that was as lovely as mine, but that didn't include watercolour pans she didn't need. This purchase was a complete success.
The Fome tin I bought for her is identical in every way, including quality, weight, and the treated inside enamel which seems to help the mixing process by drawing the paint together instead of spreading it. The only difference is the absence of a Winsor & Newton logo on the lid. This tin was perfect for my friend because she already had watercolour pans she was using and just needed a new home for them.
This is a wonderful alternative to spending £45 on the official Bijou Box if you already have colours you love.
Both myself and my friend have taken the loose metal separators out of our respective tins, which allowed us to rearrange the pans and fit 14 half-pans instead of the original 8, or the sometimes advertised 12. I find that I mix most of my colours myself and some of my 14 colours are rarely used, so what I have is a tiny tiny tiny collection I can fit in any pocket, and holds more colours than I can use.
For a more reviews take a look at
The Bijou Watercolour Box listing, everything is the same except the fact that this one's empty and has no logo.
I highly recommend this box, and the Bijou box, to anyone who paints or sketches on the go.
