4.0 out of 5 stars A fun interpretation... 16 Mar 2012
By FictionFan TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a diehard Agatha Christie fan, I'm always interested in new interpretations of her great novels, so I was immediately intrigued to see how well they would adapt to the graphic novel format.

The book is hardback, approximately A4 size and runs to 46 pages. The illustrator, Marek, has interpreted Christie's slightly caricatured cast of characters well and has also brought out some of the humour and lightness of tone that always make her books a joy.

Dead Man's Folly features Poirot and his novelist friend Ariadne Oliver investigating the death of a young girl murdered during a village fete. The plot is easy to follow in this format, though as to be expected much of the investigation is very abridged. This may act as a good introduction for older children to Christie's books, and I'm sure would also be an interesting curiosity for established fans. Good fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead Man's Folly (Agatha Christie Comic Strip) 15 Mar 2012
By S Riaz HALL OF FAME TOP 10 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a very novel way of presenting Agatha Christie's work. The format is a comic strip book, in a similar size to an Asterix or Tintin book. There is nice, short introduction, explaining when the book was published and where and when the story is set.

"Dead Man's Folly" is a Poirot story, in which his old friend Mrs Oliver, the detective novelist, asks for his help. She tells him she is arranging a murder hunt at a fete, but has a bad feeling that she cannot quite pin down. It is simply a vague intuition that all will not go well. Poirot agrees to help and, indeed, the afternoon provides a real victim and a puzzle for the detective to work out.

Although I have read the novel before, I enjoyed this format and feel it would be a very good introduction to Christie's work. My teenage son also read it and enjoyed it very much. I think these could really encourage reluctant readers to try something outside of the usual graphic novel, as there are many titles in this series. I thought it was a delightful retelling of the story and great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practically perfect 14 Jan 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is one of the gems of the BBC radio adaptations of Christie novels (at least, of those I've heard so far). John Moffat continues to impress as Hercule Poirot and here he is joined by Julia McKenzie's sparkling and very amusing Ariadne Oliver. I was completely enthralled by this production. I felt all the vocal cast were very good - Sir George perhaps sounds a little old and I found Hattie's voice a little strange at first but then she is a strange and also foreign young girl! Rosalind Knight is very good in the important role of Mrs Folliat. Highly recommended!
