Book Description

30 April 2006
Even if nobody believes her, Faith Emerson knows she's psychic. After all, she totally saw it coming when Peter, her boyfriend of two years, dumped her for her best friend. Heartbroken, Faith needs a fresh start. So when her good friend Carolyn suggests she move from Duluth to Minneapolis, Faith takes the plunge and embarks on a new adventure. However, Faith soon learns things don't always go as planned when she's forced to deal with a coffee shop customer from hell, a bruised tailbone, a phone-sex operator roommate, a freeloading younger sister, her parents' taxidermy convention, and a new love interest who may be stalking her. Yet every time Faith tries to rely on her perceptive abilities, friends or family accuse her of being self-involved. Faith believes in love, but knows she must solve the stalker mystery before she can trust any of the new men in her life. In the process she discovers that she has more to learn about following her heart and following her instincts than she ever imagined. Following My Toes is a tale of love and forgiveness, told with humor and a fresh, innovative voice! Laurel Osterkamp has been a comedy writer for Minneapolis performance groups over the last seven years. She currently teaches creative writing to high school students, and lives in Minneapolis with her husband and son. This is her first novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Following My Toes 7 Oct 2007
By Tami Brady TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
Faith needs a life change. She had thought her life was going pretty good. After college, she had found a teaching job back in her home town of Duluth. She had a great boyfriend, whom she had been dating for two years.

Then, everything fell apart. The boyfriend gave her the "it's not you speech" and Faith soon realizes that he's been seeing her best friend behind her back. It gets worse when the two decide to get engaged, so much for him not being the marrying type.

Faith decides that a change is definitely in order so she makes the move to Minneapolis. However, her new life isn't quite what she expected. She can't seem to find a job. Her needy roommate has a side job as a sex phone operator. Faith might also have a stalker.

Following My Toes connects the reader to the feeling of chatting with a close friend. You are with her through the laughs and through those hard parts. You get that she'd be so much better off if she just stopped trying not to make mistakes and just followed her heart. You also know that she's going to have to do everything the hard way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Will keep you wanting more! 12 July 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When Faith's boyfriend leaves her for her best friend, she decides she needs to take drastic action with her life. So she moves to a new city and starts a new job that ends in a journey of self-discovery.

Following my Toes has got a mixture of everything in it - women's fiction, mystery, romance, but above all it's about learning to forgive and get on with our lives following a break-up.

An all-round great read that will keep you wanting more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Light, witty enjoyable read 30 April 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Enjoyable read. I liked Lynn Osterkamp's light, witty style of writing. The charaters were interesting and the story line kept me engrossed. I thought the subtle use of 'psychic ability' was well grounded and added to the story rather than swamped it. The underlying mystery kept me guessing, and successfully remained light when it could so easily have had a darker edge. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a little mystery and a little romance wrapped up with natural humour.

2.0 out of 5 stars disappointing 9 Mar 2011

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
i was looking forward to the story with a character that held both the reality of a human that makes mistakes and enough fiction to lose yourself in an unreal situation. but i was left ultimately unsatisfied and very un enthralled. the main character irritated me and her parents were infuriating. it lacked that spark, that passion that really drives a story and its characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm shocked 30 May 2006
By Harvey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
that this is the author's first novel! While this is definitely a fun read, she also has a way with language that made me think she had a number of books under her belt.

I can imagine this being a favorite with the chick lit crowd, though I liked it more as a mystery novel. So I guess I'd say that unless your reading is confined to encyclopedias and repair manuals, you'll really like this. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging from the start 8 Oct 2006
By MC - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Even though I don't generally read this genre, Osterkamp's book kept me turning the pages. From the opening where we learn Faith is not only psychic, but has been kidnapped, this story forced me to read on.

The humor Faith uses to look at her life makes this story endearing and believable. I was with her from the time her best friend fessed up to cheating with Faith's boyfriend all the way through her "call girl" room mate and mechanic crush. Funny and engaging. I'll definitely buy the author's next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A super-fun read! 19 May 2006
By Carly Twiss - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
From the beginning I was hooked! This book is fast-paced, and unlike some of the chick lit I've read, it has some depth as well. I recommend it to anyone who likes comic-romance that's well written and smart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Following My Toes 26 May 2011
By Mary E. Young - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
When Faith is dumped by her boyfriend of two years for her best friend; she decides that it is time for a new start. She moves from the small town of Duluth to Minneapolis, where her friend Carolyn lives. She soon finds herself dealing with a crazy stalker, a phone-sex operator roommate and a demented coffee shop customer. Overall, I enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and the plot was fun and entertaining. Although not quite as good as her other book, this one is definitely worth a read.
