* A plethora of truly great girl groups recorded for Memphis's greatest labels. Stax had Jeanne and the Darlings, the Emotions and the Charmels and in the 70s Hi had the wondrous sounds of Quiet Elegance. In recent years Kent have exhumed the Sounds Of Memphis archive and brought the spotlight onto Barbara & The Browns. From the same archive come the soul masterpieces of the Minits. This CD brings together all 12 of that group's recordings for Sounds Of Memphis.
* Consisting of sisters Mary Ann and Carolyn Watkins and Mary Anderson, they were signed to Sounds Of Memphis by Dan Greer and released three singles, including the highly sought-after northern soul classic `Still A Part Of Me'. Their sound was in the pop-soul arena, possibly trying to capture some of the market of the Honey Cone or the post-Diana Ross Supremes. The compilation includes all of their singles, the unreleased tracks that have dotted Kent Sounds Of Memphis compilations and two unreleased tracks - a vibes heavy version of their second single `Lover Boy' and an amazing unreleased sister funk number called `If You Don't Like My Apples'.
* The Sounds Of Memphis Archive allows us to fill the booklet with an incredible array of photographs of the girls. In full colour, they were taken in and around the Memphis-based studio at the time of recording, making for an incredible celebration of this little-known act.

Format:Audio CD
I received this great CD today called "Follow Your Heart - The Sounds Of Memphis Recordings" by the Minits. I have been overwhelmed by the quality of the tracks. I can't put it better than the notes on the back cover of the release:
"The beautiful Memphis soound of the Minits. Female soul of the highest quality which will entrance fans of Ann Peebles and Denise LaSalle, gathered together for the first time with a fine selection of photographs of the group."
I'd heard of the female trio but had never actually heard their sound before yesterday. I'd describe it as a cross between the Hony Cone and the wonderful Quiet Elegance.
And the fine selection of photos is actually stunning. Many colour photos that have never been published before.
Ace / Kent Records are to be congratualted yet again for the fine job they do in bringing us longs forgotten soulful groups who deserve their moment in the spotlight. The Minits are definitely a group worth listening to and I wholeheartedly recommend that you do just that.

"THE MINITS" are Mary E.,Carolyn and Mary Ann, dear friends of mine, we grew up in the same community in montgomery,alabama,we attended the same schools and churches, in some instances shared childhood homes,dreams,meals and tears together, we were "family". the other day as i spoke with a former member of the angelic triune on the telephone,Mary Anderson, we laughed,we cried we remembered and reminisced about the days of old and of our youth,as well as,the great music of that marvelous trio, the worldly renowned A.K.A. the "Minits" and, even now and beyond this very day the Minits are,"still a part of me". we also reminisced about those wonderful days when she and the Minits were #1 in the hearts,souls and minds of all whom listened to their soul's through their voices and their music. carolyn,whom i miss dearly, is in heaven now and with each thought of her talent,extraordinary musical prowess and her pulchritude,her memory remains a constant reminder of what a wonderful spirit God shared with us to be a blessing and an inspiration to us all, a real live "angel" living among us here on earth for a brief time and then, "nevermore", i thank you God for every moment you shared her with us, we shall always remember you princess and, "we will always love you carolyn", thank you father for allowing us to,"FOLLOW YOUR HEART". ty blue
