What is there to say about Children Of Bodom that hasn’t been said yet?

That they have the songs AND the skill?

That very few come even close to what CoB is doing?

That they ARE state of the art?

In the last eight or so years, the band that darted to international fame with their debut, 1997’s “Something Wild”, has gone from being “this ... Read more in Amazon's Children of Bodom Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Bodom 23 May 2004
Format:Audio CD
For me, this is easily the most accessible of Children of Bodom's first four albums, and also the one with the most replayability. Where, for me, Hatebreeder and Something Wild had outstanding tracks interspersed with some more mediocre, Follow the Reaper really does not contain one song that would enhance the quality of the album in its absence. The sound is a cross between particularly heavy power metal, with death metal vocals: classic melodic death. Some may argue that this album is more commercial than its predecessors (and successor) in its widened appeal. Certainly the songs contain catchier and more frequent guitar solos (I especially like the one two minutes into Northern Comfort), making the album easier to appreciate on first listen. There is little or no acclimatisation period with this album, and it has the same impact on me now as it did when I first bought it. The musicianship is excellent and the songs are varied enough to retain interest, but similar enough to give the album cohesion. This album is so good that it is almost pointless exercise to list the best songs, and is better to list those that weren't as good: Taste of my Scythe, Kissing the Shadows and the cover Hellion. These are good songs, but compared to modern classics such as Everytime I Die, they are non-starters. Despite these minimal disappointments, this album is the standard all melodic death metal should be judged against. Buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper 22 May 2014
By Gentlegiantprog TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Follow The Reaper is the third full-length studio album by the unique Finnish Melodic Death Metal band Children Of Bodom. It was released in 2000, and has gone on to become something of a fan-favourite record, with many of the tracks becoming live staples.

This would be the last Bodom album before they started incorporating more Groove Metal influences into their sound. The sound here is more based in Melodic European Power Metal than on the albums which would follow.

The album is strong and consistent, with exceptional musicianship and a clear production job. It does a good job of balancing blistering guitar shredding and thundering double-kick speed with nuanced song writing, coming across as an album that is both impressive on a virtuosity level and coherent on the gut level. Choruses are memorable, guitar leads are fun and the record flows well, with no filler or out of place experimental material.

Highlights include the incredibly fun “Bodom After Midnight,” as well as “Everytime I Die” and the single “Hate Me!”

Overall; Follow The Reaper is a very strong album and one which no Children Of Bodom fan should be without.

5.0 out of 5 stars Majestic Album. A must-have. 14 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
Whether you like CoB or not, whether you're into melodic death metal or not, this album will absolutelty astound you. The best Children of Bodom album by far. The best melodies, riffs & solos you can ever find in the whole CoB career. I adore this album, each track of it, because its unique: every single song has a distinctive mark and so this album is never boring with repetitive sounds. Comple solos that rule this album from first to last song.
A must have for every metalhead.
CoB are always fantastic but with Follow The Reaper they reached perfection. This is nothing less than perfect.
And if you need a proof just listen to the solo of Kissing The Shadows or Taste Of My Scythe and make up your mind if these guys are awesome or not.
In my opinion this is one, if not the one,of the best melodic death metal albums of the decade.
