4.0 out of 5 stars Weird but wonderful... 23 Aug 2010
Format:Audio CD
I purchased this album quite a few years ago in a spate of buying up as many U.S 'Psych' obscurities as possible, but never really gave it a proper listen until recently. What we seem to have here is a bit of an early concept album, ala 'Pet Sounds' or 'S.F Sorrow'. The 'story' isn't really that clear, but I believe the idea was to write a series of pieces relating to the various concerns each of us face as we move through life, starting with first love, then touching on spirituality, oppression, the environment and so on, and naturally ending in death. A fairly typical hippie piece then! A bit pretentious with it too perhaps, but that can be a good thing sometimes! It's the music itself that makes this really interesting though, with great acid guitar lines (the opening instrumental 'I Don't Know' is truly gorgeous if you love 'psych' guitar) and there's plenty of weird sound effects, strange vocals and so on. Clearly this was an ambitious and serious studio project, and is highly recommended to genre specialists. As ever, Sundazed have done a fine job with the sleevenotes, etc.

4.0 out of 5 stars Folkstone Prism by Kennelmus delivers the goods 14 Feb 2010

If you are seriously into 70's instrumental psychedelia, you must own this record. The CD barely takes 30 minutes to listen to but if you were in a desert tripping, this album would be your anthem.
4.0 out of 5 stars Kennelmus - 'Folkstone Prism' (Sundazed) 15 Aug 2011
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Originally released in 1971, as this was the obscure Arizona psych band's only album. Tunes here that managed to hold my full attention were "Patti's Dream", "Goodbye Pamela Ann" (stunning guitar intro), "Think For Yourself", the somewhat humorous "Shapes Of Sleep" (what's their vocalist on during this song?), "Sylvan Shores" and "The Raven". Personnel: Ken Walker - guitar, zither, organ, electric piano & vocals, Bob Narloch - guitar, harmonica & vocals, Tom Gilmore - bass and Mike Shipp - drums & percussion. Recommended for fans of Music Emporium, Bow Street Runners, The Misunderstood, Electric Prunes, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and possbly Captain Beefheart. Definitely well worth checking out - at least take time to listen to this site's provided sound bites - you won't regret it.
