Although this was only released in 2007, so much has happened to a number of the artists that are featured, good & bad. The CD kicks off with the now defunct `The Devil's Interval' with Jim Causley leading us through a traditional song. Tim Van Eyken is up next, another singer with strong ties to the Waterson family. Tim also contributes a traditional track. The traditional numbers outweigh the original songs by 8 to 6 but all of the arrangements are new and dynamic as one would expect from a CD that focuses on the great new talent that is emerging into the scene.
Of the original compositions, there are a number of very strong contenders for the outstanding track of the CD. For me, this goes to Ella Edmondson with `Breathe' a gorgeous number about breaking up with a clingy boyfriend. Hot on Ella's tail are the mighty Megson with `Follow it on', the centre piece of the cracking album of the same name. Of the traditional numbers, the Mawkin effort is my personal favourite and indeed they are another band going places in a hurry.
This is a wonderful smorgasbord of styles and musicianship, with only 1 duff track and serves as an excellent introduction to a number of artists that most will be unfamiliar with. Splash your cash, you won't regret it.
