Product Description

The follow up to last year's successful series launch and the phenomenal success of That's Proper Folk!! This time 23 artists are included on two CDs, reflecting the growing momentum behind the current folk revival at a very special price. Features many artists who are at the start of their careers but who are still attracting considerable critical acclaim and media interest. Most if not all will be active on the folk club scene and festival circuit over the summer, so there will be plenty of gigs to accompany the release. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By A. Hill on 5 Aug. 2008
I got the "That's Proper Folk" sampler earlier in the year and loved it. Why aren't there more folk comps like this I thought? Then the same people brought out Folk Rising 2, a follow up to last year's Folk Rising compilation, showcasing the best of young folk around at the moment. All for a bargain price too!

By Mr. N. J. Harding on 27 Jun. 2009
Following on from the excellent original `Folk Rising' release in 2007, this second CD in what I hope will become a long running series, has been expanded to fill 2 CDs rather than one. I know what you want to know, and can confirm that the same strict quality control that was applied before is again evident here.

Across 23 tracks the mix of style is eclectic and again features a healthy mix of original and reworked traditional numbers. Of the latter, Ruth Notman's version of `Limbo' is maybe the best I have heard. A really hooky arrangement, that lodges itself in the mind, you will be humming it for days.

Again a supporting booklet is included in the packaging, but this version is superior to the original release, with more colour pictures, reviews and release information. This is a double edge sword as you will follow up on your favourite tracks here and purchase a number of additional CDs. After listening to this release I have since purchased records by Kim Edgar, Mawkin:Causley, Mary Hampton and have the Ruth Notman record and more on my Amazon wishlist.

This is superb value for money and delivers a box of delights, highly recommended.
