Please be aware that not one of the 451 images is in color. And even worse, as you can see from the Images above, it would be hard to use this as a coloring book like so many Dover publishes. However, what's good about the book is the vast array of images and the description or identification of what the item. For example, above, the first Image shows a "buta," a very common image, and a human being and a butterfly. Perhaps I didn't need the border diagram that looks like a Greek key pattern entitled "track of young animal's urine" but that's just me....

The other good thing is that there are many, many books out there on oriental or Persian carpets that show all these images on rugs. This book will help you identify those images you like so you could design a beautiful needlepoint or cross stitch piece. I own these books and recommend them to complement this book:

Needlepoint Designs From Oriental Rugs (I made the cover carpet)
Oriental Carpets in Miniature: Charted Designs for Needlepoint or What You Will
Designs for needlepoint and latch hook rugs
Kilim Designs in Needlepoint: Over 25 Projects Inspired by Traditional Kilim Patterns
Oriental rugs in needlepoint: 10 charted designs (this one's especially nice)

By not providing colors, this book allows you to choose what suits your fancy. It's very satisfying to stitch something unique.

Finally, see this other book of the author's which is also in my library:

Persian Rug Motifs for Needlepoint: Charted for Easy Use (Dover needlework series)
