I bought this pack before going hiking this summer and decided it was wise to have emergency bags with us even when we were only planning to do only day trips. I was lucky enough to need it and have it and be able to write a review about it afterwards.
I was hiking in the Adirondack Mountains, in NY State, with my husband. It was several weeks after the hurricane Irene had hit the area and they were finally allowing hikers to start using the trails. However, we didn't know that one of the trails was totally destroyed because the trees were down...so when we got there in the evening, well equipped with flashlights...we couldn't find our way back so we had to camp out in the dark. We found our way to a camp site and we had to sleep on the ground (this was roughly around the 20th of September...with brutally cold nights!) so luckily...even though we didn't have any sleeping bags because we weren't planning on sleeping anywhere but home, we had the emergency packs I had bought.
We each had our own bag, but decided to squeeze into a single one, since we wanted to preserve as much body heat as we could and not freeze to death. We actually managed to get a decent sleep, but that was surely a combination of both the three mountain peaks we had climbed and the warmth inside the emergency blankets.
I recommend this product to everyone, who knows when you might need to keep warm and need such a life saver! It managed to hold two average sized adults and keep us warm during a very cold night.
And at such a great price it is well under what it deserves to cost! It literally saved our lives!
