Product Description

Five foil blankets. Image for illustration - packaging may differ. These foil blankets help to retain body heat in survival, emergency and first aid situations. They are stocked in the case of evacuation at sports centres, hotels, schools and many other sites. Also known as survival blankets, they are commonly used by first aiders in the treatment of shock and hypothermia. The disposable foil blankets are individually sealed in pocket sized poly bags. They are effective even in wet conditions and may be used in conjunction with traditional fabric blankets. The emergency foil blankets are made from Kelvalite, an ultra-insulating material constructed from polyester film with a vapourised metallic coating on both sides it reflects radiated heat back to the user.

I can now write a proper review of these now I have used them at my last music festival.

Does what it's supposed to, you put the tinfoil thing on and then just wait for a minute till you heat up.
I used and re-used one blanket throughout the weekend. They do become rather crumpled and noisy but remain warm.
After repeated use I think a very crumpled blanket starts to smell a little tinny after I've had it lying around for a while, though this is not a major issue or very noticable.
Doesn't matter if you wear a coat or tshirt under these, though I recommend covering your arms as you can imagine the plastic coating will stick to you slightly.

I bought mine from EVAQ8 for £4.80 total, which at 96p per blanket is a good price, average internet price appears to be around £1.50 per blanket. They are each individually wrapped which is useful for packing them away.
The blankets are sized at 2.15m x 1.5m which provides full coverage.
(Poundland sells two 2m x 1m blankets for £1 & I also tried these, though one of these is only enough to cover shoulders, so that ends up a worse deal.)
I think the warming effect of most emergency blankets is the same, but a bigger size is better. I have not tested an 'extra thick' space blanket -I'm not sure if that would crumple less but I don't imagine the warming effect being much different.
Can use these as floor insulation in tents too if you don't have a foil-lined rollmatt.
I might go for an actual foil-lined camping blanket after this.

This is one of those items that you could regret not buying in the worst way.
They are well worth keeping in the boot of your car just in case, or to take camping or any other outdoor pursuit that could end up with you in shock and drifting into hypothermia. They could very well end up saving a life.
The service from EVAQ8 was prompt and faultless.

I bought this pack before going hiking this summer and decided it was wise to have emergency bags with us even when we were only planning to do only day trips. I was lucky enough to need it and have it and be able to write a review about it afterwards.
I was hiking in the Adirondack Mountains, in NY State, with my husband. It was several weeks after the hurricane Irene had hit the area and they were finally allowing hikers to start using the trails. However, we didn't know that one of the trails was totally destroyed because the trees were down...so when we got there in the evening, well equipped with flashlights...we couldn't find our way back so we had to camp out in the dark. We found our way to a camp site and we had to sleep on the ground (this was roughly around the 20th of September...with brutally cold nights!) so luckily...even though we didn't have any sleeping bags because we weren't planning on sleeping anywhere but home, we had the emergency packs I had bought.
We each had our own bag, but decided to squeeze into a single one, since we wanted to preserve as much body heat as we could and not freeze to death. We actually managed to get a decent sleep, but that was surely a combination of both the three mountain peaks we had climbed and the warmth inside the emergency blankets.
I recommend this product to everyone, who knows when you might need to keep warm and need such a life saver! It managed to hold two average sized adults and keep us warm during a very cold night.
And at such a great price it is well under what it deserves to cost! It literally saved our lives!
