I couldn't find an up to date rough guide or lonely planet which would be my usual choice so bought this as the reviews were good. I'd not heard of Fodors before but I have to say it was invaluable during our 4 night stay in new orleans. Very easy to read with lots of useful tips. Would recommend and would def buy a Fodors guide again.

I've been looking for alternatives to the weary Lonely Planet and the directionless Rough Guides, and found this Fodor to be a good alternative.
Still lacks depth.
The early Rough Guides made fascinating reading.
Why have Guides become so mundane?

The problem with New Orleans is that there is so much to do and see (and to eat) that it's hard to know where to begin. This book can really help you figure out a good plan of attack. It's well-organized into different parts of town and different areas of interest (like house tours, cemeteries, or Mardi Gras) which helps you zero in on what you are most interested in doing.

I live in New Orleans and a good friend of mine owns a prominent B&B in town (the Chimes New Orleans.) She keeps several copies of this book for her guests to use. It's the only guide book she recommends.

I've looked at many travel guides for New Orleans and this one is the best I've seen and it's also more compact than most. I just wish Fodor's would make this into an iPad app.

Good accessory for our 12 day trip to New Orleans and the South 21 Feb 2014

Loved the background information, list of places to stay and the list of restaurants. I picked this one because it was published a week before we left on our trip and therefore was the most up to date I could find on Amazon.

I buy the fodors books for places I am travelling to, and even for places I am thinking about travelling to. They are very informative, well written, include lots of pictures, maps, everything you need to know to travel with confidence and really enjoy your trip.

Preparing for our return to New Orleans 2 Mar 2014

I've owned earlier editions of Fodor's New Orleans, and needed an update. The 2014 is easy to use and follow.
I am already making mental notes and lists of things to see and do and places to eat, based on what Fodor's recommends.

Not the best guide for New Orleans, the book is accurate but doesn't capture the spirit of the city. In this instance, the competitors older guidebook was more insightful.

It was ok. I bought this on the fly for my kindle and was hoping for something more user friendly. For example, one of the sections in front is 'top reasons to go' and says to queue up for beignets at Café du Monde. Great, but now you have to go searching for where that is. I'd have liked where I could touch it and it'd have brought me to its review with location, without having to go searching. There's a table of contents but no index. There aren't any starred reviews either so unless it's a "Fodor's choice" you're left wondering how good it is. I was excited to go see the Garden District, but the book leaves out the current homes of the famous (probably for privacy reasons). I was also hoping it'd have more pictures. Yes, it's a "full color" travel guide, but I felt it was light on pictures and maps. For instance, I would have loved to have a map for the eating places they suggested in the quarter, but it doesn't do that. The book gives a suggested walking tour for the garden district and warehouse district, but not the French quarter. It has some interesting articles, but for me, this is more suited as a pre-planning guide rather than a read as you go travel guide.
