This is a must read if you want to progress as a soccer coach. I have hundreds of soccer books, all
on drills and tactics. This is by far the best learning tool for my development.
I was lucky to see a seminar conducted by Mr Beswick. I got so much out of it.
This book will improve you as a person, and as a coach.

Since Bill Beswick wrote the first edition of Focussed for Soccer almost ten years ago, psychology has insinuated its way into soccer at all levels. Even my ten year old was coming home from training chiding me for my lack of `focus', my questionable `mind set' and my `emotional intensity' when I was encouraging him to tidy his room.

This second edition of Focussed for Soccer is a completely updated edition that builds on Beswick's maturing experience over the last ten years - Manchester United, Middlesbrough FC, and England national squads have all benefitted from his approach, and well drawn examples are used to clarify each step along the way.

Beswick's expertise has been shaped and honed in the cauldron of his experience in a variety of sports at the most senior level. Unlike the authors of many books on the psychological aspects of sport, I'm sure Bill Beswick could show you the scars from his experience of implementing these techniques. The stories and anecdotes that bring his approach to life entertain whilst illuminating the critical points he makes. When he identifies the approaches and techniques that have worked successfully with the megastars this is no academic exercise - you can smell the fear and anxiety in the dressing room and almost taste the elation of victory.

Attitude, confidence, self-control, concentration and mental toughness, are all considered in depth: and drawing these together in building a cohesive team is addressed with an expertise gained from being there. For the rest of us, the questionnaires and exercises can be used to analyse and develop key elements of players and teams at all levels.

If you purchased the 1st edition then treat yourself to this current volume for the benefit of the new material. If this is your first encounter with Focussed for Soccer then get the second edition and see what you've been missing. Maybe you'll discover you might not be quite the coach or player you could have been had you read the original. But as the philosophy of Focussed for Soccer maintains, you can still achieve your potential. Read this book, take control and make things happen. You won't be disappointed.
