Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
The award-winning flight combat from Oleg Maddox's IL-2 series moves the setting from the Eastern front to the fierce combat of the Pacific Theatre. Allied fighters and bombers square off against the notorious air power of the Japanese empire. For the first time, a large variety of British aircraft will be included along with U.S and Australian planes. Target enemy ships, vehicles, airfields and a host of AI controlled aircraft. Re-enact some of the most famous air battles of WWII in places like Pearl Harbour, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima.

Fly a variety of WWII fighters and bombers
Fly for the U.S, Japan, Great Britain and Australia in famous fighters including the F6F Hellcat, the deadly Japanese Zero, and the UK's Supermarine Seafire. Flyable bombers such as the Aichi D3A1 Val, G4M2 Betty, SBD Dauntless, and A-20 Havoc are also included. More than 40 flyable aircraft models are available.

New! Game includes aircraft carriers
For the first time in the 1C: Maddox game series, players will have the option to take-off from, land on, and engage enemy aircraft carriers in combat.

Accessible to players of all skill levels
With its extensive tutorials and customisable settings, the game will appeal to both beginning and expert pilots. Nearly every level of realism and difficulty can be tuned to fit user tastes.

Award-winning IL-2 style flight combat simulation gameplay
As with every product in the IL-2 series, Pacific Fighters offers unparalleled attention to detail. The smart AI, unequalled damage model and sense of realism combine to immerse players like no other combat flight simulation.

Maps of the most famous battles of the Pacific
Sixteen new maps are included with famous historical landmarks such as Midway, Okinawa, Pearl Harbour and Singapore. Wave movements on the beach, volumetric clouds and thick vegetation are some of the visual attributes that are rendered in detail.

Attack a vast variety of targets ranging from railroads to battleships
Ground objects such as trains, trucks and tanks can all be pounded from the air. Torpedo historically accurate ships, drop parafrags on enemy airfields and encounter more than 100 other targets on the ground and at sea.

An unsurpassed multiplayer option
Take part in massive live engagements on huge maps that feature plane formations, numerous ships and ground troops in a variety of modes from free-for-all dogfights to multiplayer campaigns.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Pacific Fighters - A very worthwhile sequel to IL-2, 9 Dec 2006
By Michael J. Rolph "MJRolph" (Exning nr. Newmarket, Suffolk, England, UK) - See all my reviews
    Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
When I purchased IL-2 months ago, I got it cheap and on offer with another Sim (namely Silent Hunter II), and I expected it to be a simple, un-detailed basic combat flight sim as I believed then, nothing could beat Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator series, now I know how wrong I was, so very wrong. I had not heard much about just how good IL-2 was, but when I installed it and flied - it was stunning... it was just outstanding. Now, Oleg Maddox and his team have added the even more absolutely stunning Pacific Fighters to the series.

I now have owned and been flying Pacific Fighters for about a year now, and not once has my opinion of it changed. Despite the fact I had to suffer several weeks before I could properly play the game - the wait worthwhile when I finally could play it. The wait was because I had to upgrade almost all the computer hardware to run it - at a hefty cost of around 100 pounds, but then again, our PC was of the simple, non-mass game playing kind, but as I said - it was worthwhile. The game continues on the excellent quality IL-2 gave us, with additional enhancements, no matter how subtle. The game runs very smoothly - if you have the capable hardware. The scene is set, as in the name of the game, in the ferocious Pacific Theatre of the War where many unstable battles unfold between the brave Allies of the Americans, British and Australians/New Zealanders and the fearless Japanese. There are around 40 flyable/playable aircraft (actually, there are only about 20 or so completely different aircraft, it is the great range of different marks and versions which ups this number) each and every one with wonderfully created models, flight models, and beautifully authentic and realistic cockpits. Just a few of these aircraft include the American P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, Vought Corsair, the British Supermarine Spitfire and Seafire, Hawker Hurricane, Bristol Beaufighter, and for the Japanese - Mitsubishi A6M Zero, Kawasaki KI-61, Aichi D3A1 Val and even the Mitsubishi G4M1 Betty.

You can fly in several different campaigns involving all the nationalities and continues the ingenious dynamics and intelligence of these campaigns that we see in IL-2. The game interface is fairly easy to use and is almost exactly the same as the IL-2 design. If you own, or are going to own (as am I) IL-2 Forgotten Battles and the Ace Expansion pack, (as well as IL-2) then you can merge them all into one awesome, seamless WWII combat sim. The scenery also matches the overall quality of the game and includes the best default water we've ever seen yet (if you have the capable hardware). The scenery also differs depending on where exactly you're flying. The sound quality is fairly well designed, although it is nothing spectacular. It also includes as standard the online combat and multi-player functions for even more fun. There are a few basic flaws, which can be fixed with a few official patches that also add additional aircraft etc. to the game.

Overall it is an awesome game and a brilliant sequel to the uniquely outstanding IL-2, and if you have the other programs at hand, it can create one damn awesome WWII combat sim... and make a perfect present!!!

Undoubtably one of the greatest combat sims that ever existed - if you're even a beginner to this video game genre - buy it now!

Thank you for reading my review.

3.0 out of 5 stars Flight Sim not an Arcade Game..., 28 Dec 2008
By mystic fred (prog heaven) - See all my reviews

    Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
As stated in other reviews this is not an arcade game, but is a highly realistic flight sim.
The graphics are very detailed, it could take months to go through all the missions - or lots of nice planes to sit and watch while flying along to their mission on autopilot (you don't have to do anything if you don't want to), unfortunately my main gripe is that the planes take far too long to reach their target - ok if you want to go and have tea, have a bath, go to the shops or phone the girlfriend (if you have time for one) while you are waiting. Once you reach your target the planes are very sluggish and are difficult to line up...maybe i'm an arcade person and don't have a whole holiday to get to grips with this thing.
If you agree with me go for the City Interactive "CombatWings" series - great graphics, quick to get to grips with and highly entertaining - overall FUN, and great amusement if you have the odd hour or two to spare..that is the definition of "game" after all, isn't it?
