Product Description

Product Description

Spirit Professional headphones have been specifically designed to meet the expectations and requirements of Recording Studios, Home Studios and Broadcasting Studios. Titanium alloy transducer enables the combination of rigidity, lightness and high damping properties to preserve the dynamics of the audio signal and to provide remarkably neutral sound without any distortion. The highly accurate reproduction of bass frequencies will reveal the smallest defects in the mix, while avoiding acoustic constraints of the workspace. Spirit Professional offers excellent acoustic insulation to address the constraints of the often noisy environments specific to Broadcasting and Home Studios. Large memory-foam ear cushions surround the whole ear as well as spread and minimise the amount of pressure felt by the user. Finally, the textured black finish is highly shock- and scratch-resistant, a necessary quality considering how often this professional equipment will be used.

This new headphone from Focal may just be the best available at the price. It has in common with the Focal Spirit an organic expression of music . I think two attributes contribute to this intangible but recognisable quality. First is an even handed frequency range with everything there but nothing standing out. Second is the transient response :the rapid starting and stopping of notes that gives a dynamic energy to the sound. This even response and dynamic energy gives an exceptional realism to the music it plays. I have compared the Pro with all it's price peers : Sennheiser; Yamaha 500 Pro ,PSB , KEF etc and phones at a much costlier level: Sennheiser 800; Beyerdynamic T1; Ultrasone Edition 8 . IMHO it beats them all. It is sensitive enough to play straight from an iPhone and sounds great but it gives of its best through an amp. At the moment I am listening through a Slee Solo and the sound is as good as it gets.
Like all phones it benefits from break in . Try to give it a trial: you won't be disappointed !

If you want these headphones summed up in one sentence, here it is: In my opinion, these headphones sound simply superb and provide a very comfortable, enjoyable and non-fatiguing listening experience.

If you want a bit more detail, read on...

I've now had these headphones since they first entered the market in April 2014. I was fortunate enough to be one of the few customers who caught them on a limited pre-order, for around £165. I've not seen them that cheap since. However, all my comments in this review remain the same, even if I had paid the current price of around £200. In my opinion, they're worth every penny.

So let's get down to the nitty gritty. Quite simply, these are the most balanced and clear-sounding headphones I've ever heard. In other words, they are the complete opposite of Dr Dre Beats. No particular frequency range is emphasised or ignored. That said, if you like the sound of Dr Dre Beats and can listen to them for hours on end with no fatigue, then you probably won't like these Focal headphones. The Focals certainly do NOT have a big "hump" in the bass frequency response and therefore anyone who loves that bass-heavy sound will likely be disappointed with the clear, balanced sound provided by the Focal Spirit Pros.

But for me, these headphone are as close to perfection as I think I am likely to get without spending £500+.

Further, because of the superior clarity and the well-balanced frequency response of these headphones, I believe you can listen to them at a lower equivalent SPL level than some other headphones, and this can only be a good thing for your hearing.

These are superb headphones, very neutral sound if not very slightly forward. Good soundstage for closed type phones, very detailed with excellent resolution and well balanced base. Speaking of base, while it isn't in anyway overdone, it is very tuneful and dynamic with a bottomless depth. Midrange is full of detail and the highs are clear but smooth. I have some sony MDR-7506's, Beyerdynamic DT-1350's and AKG-702's. All of these headphones are great, sony's are a great professional studio phone, the beyers are simply wonderful with balanced sounds and bottomless base, the AKG's are just fabulous with great soundstage and an uncanny ability to keep every instrument and sound separate with space around and in between whilst revealing every detail. Is there a better headphone out there? Apparently, but for the price of the AKG's I hav come across a pair that comes even close at twice the price. But, back to the FOCAL proffessional's...these are my favourite reference headphone, in my opinion, simply stunning! Well made and very comfortable, slightly tight grip on the ears but not too much. Ok, so would I recommend them having used them for sometime now? Absolutely! Go get a pair and enjoy! I use mine with the Centrance HI-FI Mate and IPod 7th edition, all music is recorded in iTunes limitless for most detail.

I am an avid audiophile with an electrical engineering degree from MIT, so I want to assure potential purchasers that I am not one of those enthusiasts who partake themselves in mythical audio improvements.

At home, I have the flagship Focal speakers Grand Utopia EM and wanted a portable closed headphones to listen to music. The Focal ethos in audio reproduction seems to be in accuracy and neutrality, in other words no boosting of certain frequencies to give the headphones a unique colouring. Out of the countless headphones I have owned, this one is right up there in terms of accuracy and neutrality. I find them as good as if not better most headphones in the 1000GBP price range such as the HD800 and LCD-2.

If you want to listen to true to life representation of music, I believe these are definitely the best headphones within its own price range and competitive if not better than the top top price ranges. These are Especially great for classical music lovers. The piano which is notoriously difficult to reproduce accurately sounds fantastic with these headphones!
