No punches pulled here, Omar tells it like it is. A great story but there are areas where I get a little too much detail and the story can deviate. But overall the plot is good, I prefer this to his other novel "A Do Right Man" but it could be that the language used is more suited to a youngster. Not yet able to put Omar in the same league as E Lynn Harris, Terri Macmillan & Eric Jerome Dickey, but he's getting there

I felt that this book was right on time. Some of the things Mr. Tyree was expressing in this book mimic some of the experiences I have gone through myself. It was good to see that this book had a good ending. So many other books I have read end so negatively, expecially concerning minorities. I really enjoyed reading this book. Many a nite I did not go to bed until the wee hours of the morning trying to finish this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 25 April 2012
By Renae
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I read this book when I was 19 and finished it in 2 days which is unusual for me as i'm a slow reader. FlyyGirl was gripping and
down to earth, I felt like I was right there in her world, very descriptive and to the point easy to relate to. Omar definitely got in the minds of young urban girls across the globe.

This book is excellent. If parents want to know how to get in tune with their teenage children or how to handle certain situations or to help their children cope with situations that they will inevitably encounter at some point during their adolescence...THIS IS THE BOOK! I personally am not a parent. It wasn't so long ago that I was a Tracey and I can really relate to what Tracey went through. I know that one-day when I become a parent and if I ever have a daughter, this is a book that I would emplore my thirteen/fourteen year old daughter to read just to show her what life is all about without her having to experience it herself first hand. Yes it is a girly book but a brilliant one at that and if Omar could of made the story longer, I could of kept on reading and reading and reading!
