Sublime Space Rock,

I first heard this band at a gig in Oxford and was completely blown away. Their first album, The End of the Pier, was the kind of heavy guitar space rock that The Verve used to be good at - think Reprise from A Northern Soul - and the sort of music I've been trying to find for years. This second album is another cracker, with a greater emphasis on vocals: the first was almost exclusively melodic electric guitar unaccompanied by singing. Highlights of this second album include Boxing Day and Flyover, both beautiful and haunting songs that build to great climaxes. Buy this album, stick it on when you're chilling out, and let it take you far away.

It really doesn't get ANY BETTER than this,

The only reason I gave this album 5-stars is because that is the limit offered.
If there ever was a band that has gone criminally unnoticed, The Workhouse have to earn first prize. It is impossible to summarize what an outstanding record this is from start to finish and everywhere in between. It has it all - big sound / quiet moments / incredible musicianship / heartfelt lyrics. These guys are unquestionable masters of their craft - delving in and out of styles (like the Western tinge on Sellafield - just stellar) effortlessly. There are big rushes mixed such solitude that make you realize how special this music is. This is a total composition / music with such poise and purpose. The "world is truly a better place" because of The Workhouse.
