Flymo 15 May 2004
By A Customer
The Flymo 330/350 does exactly what it says on the tin - cuts, collects and compacts. It looks great and is clearly built to last, but despite this, I can't say that I'm too impressed.

When I first fired it up, I was pleasantly surprised, although the mower isn't the lightest of products it did 'hover', that's until the grass starts to be collected. Once the collection box becomes half full, it was seriously like trying to drag a dead labrador around the garden. Maybe that's its downfall, it's just too good at collecting the grass - I found that I needed to empty the basket regularly to allow the mower to do what it was supposed to do - hover. If it hovers, it's fine, but the weight of the thing after a serious grass cutting session gives a perfect excuse to waste your gym membership on buying the 330/350 instead. I thought gardening was supposed to be relaxing, but after spending an hour pulling this around I'm sure the neighbours could hear me cursing .... and I ended up with blisters - just from cutting the grass. Nice.

The box boasts a 'viewing window', which is about as useful as a fart in an astronaut's suit, the window appears to be the first thing that collects the grass - it should have a wiper fitted as standard. The 'Easy-Reel' system is handy and is a welcome addition but when I bought this I didn't expect that you had to unwind the whole cable before you could plug it in.

The mower comes with 4 cutting heights and this can be altered without any real effort. Once cutting, Flymo has perfected the noise levels to a minimum.

UPDATE May 2010 - It's the new grasscutting season and this mower keeps going and going and going - and so I'll give it an extra star, everytime I dust if off after the winter, it fires up as if its the first day out of the box. This thing will last me out .... tight that I am, I'll only look to replace it when bits start falling off it.

This is the first lawnmower I've bought, so I don't have much to compare it against. This is a replacement of the Qualcast Elan, which I had to return twice.

I thought this lawn mower was great. Its lightweight and made easy work of my lawn - it was turf and being cut for the first time. The grass was quite high, as it was 6 weeks old, so it was always going to be a difficult job.

Good points
Lightweight
Easy to manouvre
Folds up for storage
Easy to assemble
Handy storage for the cable

Bad points
Doesn't suck up all the grass
Didn't really compact the grass very well
You have to unwind the whole cable before you can use it, which defeats the purpose
Window box is pointless, as grass sticks to it and so you can't see in it, so you end up opening the hatch anyway

Very average 27 July 2007
Bought this to replace a previous, wheeled Flymo (Venturer 320) which had fallen apart. Was impressed by the advertised cable storage and hover ability but in practice neither are up to much. The cable has to be unwound all the way and then plugged into the mower, and then a loop put over a hook. Why not provide a permanent connection to the mower? The hover ability worsens as the grass box fills and then the mower is heavy and awkward to manoeuvre. The worst 'feature' though, is the way it sprays grass everywhere. My previous Flymo had a much smaller collection box but at least it collected almost all the grass it cut, provided the box was emptied regularly. The 330 sprays grass cuttings from under its body, even when the box is completely empty. This seems to be made worse when the grass is lush - then the cut grass compacts and sticks to the underside of the cutting area, severely reducing the space from which grass is collected and transported by the vortex to the box. When you've finished cutting the grass, there is then a lot of cleaning to do, including the area below the grass box which has lots of nooks and crannies that collect grass. When that's all done, the paths need sweeping to clear the cuttings thzat the mower has deposited. In short, I believe this to be a very poorly designed product which takes several steps backward from the previously owned model. I certainly won't be recommending it!

lawn mower
While it is a good lawnmower, the handle length or angle is not really suitable for a tall person. One is inclined to get a back ache fairly quickly.

Utter rubbish
This so-called grass cutter is poorly made and not up to doing a decent job. It will cut grass on a perfectly flat baby lawn. It is not man-enough to survive a proper garden. Read more
