After a well received debut "Rickie Lee Jones", & the excellent follow up "Pirates", the next album "Magazine" disappeared without much trace. Rickie's slightly fey hippy image suggested that the early success was a flash in the pan. Imagine the surprise to find tracks from the new album backing such things as Bay Watch! One of the strengths of Rickie Lee Jones is a melodic gift to accompany her vivid, if sometimes obscure, narrative lyrics (though anyone who likes Fagen & Becker will not have a problem). These tracks also feature some classic West Coast production values, a simply gorgeous sound. I highly recomment this album both to people who have only heard ChuckE, & anyone who enjoys mid period Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan etc.
