I never thought I would give these boots only 3 stars. I did hesitate about ordering them because several reviewers complain that they leak &/or scuff. But having had a pair of these in black for several years (bought from a shop), which I am still wearing & which have never given me any cause for complaint, I decided to go ahead. Fashion boots are not expected to be completely waterproof anyway.
I noticed on opening the box that there were a couple of tiny scratches on the leather. On the second wearing of them however there is really quite a bad scrape on the toe with the surface colour stripped off. I have never known this to happen to boots or shoes before. In my view it makes them not really fit for purpose, but I am reluctant to return them as I like them so much & haven't seen anything comparable. They are stylish, distinctive & comfortable on my awkward feet.
I have waxed the boots so that the colour difference is not so apparent even though on close view the abraded leather contrasts with the sheen of the finish in general. Luckily they are brown so it is not difficult to find a matching polish, but with the more 'exotic' colours you would be stumped...unless you're after a grungey look.
It is a shame that my trust in Fly boots has been disappointed; I feel that I am perhaps foolish for keeping them as I can't see them still looking good after several years as my black ones do.
November update: I've worn these quite a few times now, & polish them fairly regularly. I have to say I've had no repetition of the bad scrape ( which is no longer visible), just a few slight scuffs. Perhaps I somehow caused the scrape, snagging against a concrete edging.....
