Then, each city section provides details on transport to and around the city, what to see there and why, accommodation (from budget to luxury hotels), eating out, nightlife and shopping, along with a useful map of the city centre.

This book was a big disappointment. The cheaper airlines fly to the cheaper airports outside of the cities, sometimes fifty or so miles outside.
I had hoped that this book would cover places closer to these airports. It does not, it just tells you to take the hour-and-half-bus ride or pay for an expensive taxi. It mentions that Frankfurt Hahn airport is no where near Frankfurt; why not tell us about places closer to the airport then?
This book is just a travel guide to europe, with little detail. I would recommend you spend your money on a different guide, such as the Rough Guide to Europe.

First off this book is not a story of how the flight industry has been rocked by the cheap flights offered by budget airlines. That book is elsewhere on Amazon, but this book is worth its money to those of us that like to take advantage of cheap flights and use them for days out. For those that do not know, the main difference between the budget and the old firms was that the new companies gave us the chance to book our outward and return flights individually. This meant that we could suddenly have great days out without being charged the same rate as a company employee on a biz trip.
So how do those of us that do this take advantage of this book?
Well there are 100+ different destinations offered by these flights, and by using this book you can easily see who flies to your chosen destination and when is usually the best time to book a flight for. That is a big bonus, as part of the fun is finding out who is the cheapest and you can not do it without knowing who is flying. Part of deciding where to visit involves knowing how much transport to the town from the airport will cost. This book tells you. How much is food and a small range of pockets are suited. If you want to stay the night, as usually the flights are the same price, you have a list of 2 or 3 places to stay. It covers around 100 airports in this fashion. It really is well worth buying as it is a passport to the day trip to euro land revolution.
Without doubt where this book really shines is in pointing out museums and sights to see. Lets be truthful, if your going to spend all that hard earned cash flying to euro land you really should save a few euro's by visiting these cheap treasures.
The book also includes a lot of essential info, such as police phone numbers, tourist info numbers and late night pharmacy info. It tells you where to find an internet cafe to email home, and what dialing codes to dial in and out.
My only gripe is the constant refers to various websites, some of which Katie Wood must know are not really good places to look. It makes me wonder if some money changed hands for website placement in the book. We who like our day trips and us cheap flight folk NEVER book through a third party website.
Something that I would like to see added, bearing in mind that a lot of folk buying this book do not have a clue, is the inclusion of Mid and Long Term airport parking charges. They are never as bad as a lot of folk make out, but it could make the difference between deciding where to fly out from.
I for one will buy it each year and I hope the info is updated to justify it.

By ordering this book, I was expecting a detailed guide on flyring around Europe in a cheap way. However this is not what I got. The book has about 4 pages with tips about flying cheap around Europe + about 30 pages with descriptions of each airline covered. The rest of the 600 pages cover the cities where cheap airlines fly. Each city is covered in about 4 to 8 pages, in a brief way, with no pictures or maps. The book also includes information on which airlines fly to the specific city. However, travel information provided is so brief and it's only city-related without any country information that it can in no way substitute a normal guide. I did not manage to understand the usefulness of this section of the book and how someone who would travel around Europe by plane could make use of this guide.
