I first bought one of these in a gift shop, having first picked up a wooden wedge that I put back on the shelf. When I got home I used it to prop open the kitchen door which opens over a smooth stone tiled floor. The wooden wedge wouldn't have worked, as it would have skidded, but this was rock solid. The polymer just has enough give in it to give a good grip. However, a wedge made out of this material would have held the door open just as well, but this has one key advantage. If you want to release the door, just pull the door back from it or gently kick the door stop sideways and the door is now free to move. No need to bend down and yank it out - much better than a wedge. It was so good - no, I didn't buy the company! - I bought another door stop as a spare.
