Product Description

Product Description

This new and improved edition focuses on providing practical information and tools that engineers can use to maximize the profitability and reliability of their fluid catalytic cracking operations. The updated chapters and new content deliver expertise and know-how to an industry that faces significant cost cutting in capital expenditure and R&D, along with the retirement of technical specialists who are taking existing knowledge out of the industry with them. This "FCC Handbook" provides a valuable easy-to-understand resource for both experienced and inexperienced engineers and anyone else associated with the FCC process. This book gives those who need a quick reference, and gives those who are developing their skills and knowledge trusted information that will help them succeed with their projects. This title features common examples that will enable engineers to achieve increased unit savings. It is updated with the latest process technologies for handling residue and "deep" hydrotreated feedstock. It features a new chapter discussing refractory lining, providing an introduction to the different refractories employed in FCC units, examples of various refractory linings and associated anchors, installation techniques as well as some guidelines for proper drying and curing refractory lining. There is a new troubleshooting chapter, increasing the practical application of the book, along with new visual references to operation optimization. About the author: Reza Sadeghbeigi is President of RMS Engineering, Inc. a Houston, Texas based engineering firm providing high-level technical expertise in the area of fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) and related processes. Reza has 35 years of hands-on FCC experience in the refining industry, focusing on technical services, troubleshooting, process design, and project management, including major FCC revamps. A licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Texas and Louisiana, Reza has published technical papers and produced industry seminars on refining and catalytic cracking operations and conducted numerous client customized FCC training courses and public seminars. This is the only practical approach, with tools and techniques for those with FCC responsibilities to help maximize the profitability and reliability of fluid catalytic cracking operations. This title is updated throughout, with new material focusing on latest developments, the shift to using FCC to process lower quality crudes, and new applied material on troubleshooting. It provides a reference for both experienced engineers who need a quick reference, as well as providing those who are developing their skills and knowledge with access to trusted information that will help them succeed in their projects.

By Dr. Bojan Tunguz TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) is the most important conversion process used in the petroleum refineries. This reference book gives a very comprehensive and accessible overview of FCC and would be a very useful resource for all the professionals in that field.

This is a very well put together book that covers all of the essential FCC topics. The chapters in this book include "FCC Feed Characterization," "Catalyst and Feed Additives," "Chemistry of FCC Reactions," "Products and Economics," "Troubleshooting," "Emissions," and many others. The chapters are organized thematically, and the book follows a coherent theme of exposition of various areas. Nonetheless, it is possible to use the chapters, or event eh subsections, out of sequence as the need arises for any given reference material. Each chapter contains numerous tables, graphs, diagrams, and other useful information that makes this book very informative. Where applicable worked-out examples are given and these help facilitate the learning process. This book can be used either as a textbook or a reference work.

Generally good info; could use better structure 24 April 2012
By Comdet - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
My main purpose for this book was to gain a better working knowledge of FCC catalysts. It accomplished that goal generally well, outlining basic foundational issues such as catalyst components, properties and manufacturing. While sometimes too brief (with the author himself noting that a full exploration of catalysts would fill another volume of the book) it was generally helpful for my work.

I did find the writing somewhat stilted and difficult to follow. And no, I was not expecting a novel, but good technical writing has a distinct, clear flow, which this volume lacks. I also found it lacking with regard to topic/sub-topic organization, often necessitating flipping back and forth to determine where I was in the discussion structure.

Another point that disappointed me was the sometimes lack of good-quality illustrations. Granted, most are fine, and a few were very well done. However, there were several stood out as amateurish, and didn't meet the standards one would expect in a volume such as this.

Overall, for me this was a three-star book. Lots of good info, but lacking in structure and flow.
Excellent source for FCC information 17 May 2012
By Kate Stokes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This book is an excellent source for FCC information. I have a much better understanding of the basics (such as catalysts, binders fillers, etc), but more importantly this book has really helped me sort out the various metallurgy concerns that I have previously found to be somewhat complex. The chemistry section is particularly useful in this respect but I found the book to be helpful in all areas of the process. If you are an engineer in the petroleum business you will likely find this book to be indispensable.
