Book Description

11 April 1974

A leader in the field for almost 20 years, this guide provides comprehensive coverage of the trees, shrubs and flowering plants growing wild in the British Isles and in Europe from the Alps up to the Arctic, including Iceland. Over 1430 species are illustrated and over 1950 described, in systematic order, from trees to orchids and waterweeds.

Beautiful colour paintings are complemented by text which stresses the points most useful for quick identification. There are notes on ecology, lists of characteristic plants, a glossary, and indexes of scientific names. The keys are illustrated in colour, with the main key designed specially for beginners. Eight special keys allow identification of more difficult groups of plants.

4.0 out of 5 stars An old favourite. 4 May 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This had to be the best little guide book to Wildflowers in Britain and Europe. I have had one since I was a teenager and bought this second hand one as a gift for friends who have an interest in the subject but no great knowledge, and they are able to easily identify what they now find growing in the fields and waysides around them in France.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful 2 May 2013
Format:Paperback
I am very very pleased with my purchase of Collins pocket wild flowers book. Not quite a pocket sized book a bit too big but small enough to pop in a handbag or small rucksack.
The quality of the illustrations and information and descriptions of the flowers is excellent.
I am very happy with my purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pocket-sized field guide 3 Dec 2012

Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is an excellent pocket-sized field guide. It has been superbly illustrated and contains a lot of detail to help you identify wild flowers, trees and shrubs - using common names and latin names. There is a concise introduction section and then more detail to follow in the main body of the book.

Well worth it!
