I recently watched what is now considered to be an "old" film, Flowers in the Attic. It had been years since I had seen it. I have the audio book Flowers which is ok but extremely long and the voice impressions of Cory and Carrie get old fast. Also the constant dramatic reading of tears in all forms starts me laughing. Tear streaked faces, tear smudged eyes, tears pooling, dripping, glistening and tear drops on kisses. I've never read a book filled with so much weeping from a teenage boy. After Cory dies..."Tears--Chris and I cried five oceans of tears." I bought this double copy so I could read both books. I was curious as to the character's fate.
Petals lacks the repetition of tear drenched pages and grandmother's grim set lips and her picnic baskets. But there is plenty more that continues about Cathy's gorgeous hair and Chris's sensuous facial features and their beautiful young bodies. Carrie's character is suppose to be one to sympathize over, yet I found it too much to take.
By the end Chris has become a doctor. Cathy has had sex with just about every male character, a short lived career dancing on stage and has two boys from two different fathers. Carrie, Bart and the grandmother are dead. Cory's real burial spot is revealed. Corrine ends up...(you have to read the book).
