Product Description

Product Description
Let it be flour babies. Let chaos reign. When the annual school science fair comes round, Mr Cartwright's class don't get to work on the Soap Factory, the Maggot Farm or the Exploding Custard Tins. To their intense disgust they get the Flour Babies - sweet little six-pound bags of flour that must be cared for at all times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flour Babies a Good Book ?, 26 Mar 2004
By Ollie Sims (Midhurst, W Sussex ,UK) - See all my reviews
It all starts with a boy called Simon Martin who is in class 4C, the bottom class at school. The whole class is given the task of looking after imaginary babies made out of bags of flour. Simon manages to convince the whole class that there is going to be a "glorious explosion" at the end of the project for the school science fair. The whole class has little enthusiasm but the thought of a flour fight at the end keeps them going for much longer. Their teacher tries to encourage them but gets fed up with the flour babies and takes them away after only eighteen days. Simon manages to save his flour baby from the bin and keeps it until he has his own glorious explosion!
The novel has a number of important morals, including don't give teachers a hard time and that sometimes things happen for no reason.

3.0 out of 5 stars My book review of Flour Babies, 26 Mar 2004
By JennyBuckland (Hampshire, England) - See all my reviews
A class of boys in the fourth year are assigned a project, to look after sacks of flour for four weeks. They are in the lowest set and are a rowdy and disruptive bunch of trouble-makers.None of them are enthusiastic about the project,Simon Martin, however, the class thug, takes a shine to his baby.Keeping it well in order to join in the glorious explosion he,and the rest of the class are anticipating.

The stoy, although it sounds simple, has an intricate emotional side to it.It focuses on getting to know yourself and seeing others in a different light.Strong fellings such as love and hate are experienced by Simon as he struggles to keep his flour baby from harm, all the while growing closer to it and discovering more about himself and those close to him.he begins to think about his mother, how she must have had a hard time looking after him, especially when his dad left and how he should treat her with more respect. He finally gets his head aroung his dad's sudden departure with the help of

4.0 out of 5 stars We thought this story was good and we thoroughly enjoyed it!, 15 May 2002
By A Customer
We thought the opening chapter was brilliant. We got into the story straight away. This story describes all we need to know about the characters and has many interesting points put across. We really like the idea of Simon Martin being mixed up with with another boy Martin Simon, although it did get confusing. Half way through the book we lost interest for a bit as it got a bit boring because all Mr Cartright seemed to do was shout at his class (4c) and check all the class's diaries of the flour babies. In the diaries it showed the true feelings of the boys and what they thought of their bags of flour.
We didnt quite get why they made Simon's dad leaving him a big issue but this all comes together in the end. We thought the ending was brilliant where he realised his dad did not mean anything to him. The people that mattered to him were the people that knew him.We thought that this project should have been aimed at girls in a class and not boys having to look after babies. We think overall that this book should have been aimed at younger people than us. Also it should have been for people with a good sense of humour. So we come to the conclusion that overall this is a reasonable book to read and should give you a vast amount of pleasure to read if you decide to!
